does anyone know where i can get a heavy duty plug? looking for something better than the cheap ones. water proof. I'm going to mount it in the box of a truck. salt will be an issue as well. It's going to power a 12 volt cooler.

I got mine from West Marine. They have an assortment.

Thanks guys, not much different than what I've seen. I thought I seen one that kinda looked like a 7 pin trailer connector but was a 12 volt outlet instead. The blue sea one looks about the best.

There are trolling motor plugs and receptacles. Might be more what you're looking for. I have also seen a connector about the size of the 7 pin RV connector with only two contacts in it. I've no idea what the application might be or how to start looking for it.

Marinco's locking plug and receptacle combo is a fairly nice system. Can still use std. power point plugs with their receptacle and can also still use their plug in std receptacles, it's only when the two are mated & turned a 1/4 turn that they lock. When used together the plug's rubber seal does engage the bore of the receptacle and should form a seal from the looks of it. I've just not had reason to test this. About the only part of their design that I'm skeptical of is the plastic threads, but I've been using them for several years and I've yet to have a problem.

I've seen the power pole connectors. But the owner of the truck wants a cigarette lighter style for ease of use with all his accessories and 12 volt cooler. I thought i seen a trailer style plug with a 12 lighter socket in it. Guess not. A Ford sporttrac has one mounted in the bed but they're expensive. Thanks for the replies. :)

cig plugs

The Merit plugs are like the cigarette plugs but a little heavier duty. I think you can buy some from Amazon. But I cut the one off my Arb fridge and put on an Anderson connector much, much better connector.
