My 12ht starter will not crack. I have done research on jump starting a starter by connecting the starter selonoid to the positive wire on the back of the starter using a screw driver. Has anyone done this? Is there something I need to be aware of? If there is a video can you share? Thank you

You can jump the wire to the start solenoid to the main power wire.
#1 is the post for the solenoid
#2 main positive power wire
#3 the lead going into the solenoid (easiest place to access the power to the solenoid)

This won't fix a failed starter, but I bet you are not getting power down to that solenoid. The truck is going to start with you under there so be SURE you are in neutral and park brake on!

My 12h-t is a 12volt but I think the 24v starters are the same

From there, if you need a solution to keep you on the road, run a wire from that solenoid plug to reach your battery. Manually start by touching the positive post with your jumper (so you don't have to crawl under)

Thank you just to confirm. I will put a screw driver between post #1 and post #2 to jump the solenoid. Thank you. I assume if this does not work I have a failed starter. Thank you

This would mean unplugging the #3 and running a wire from here to power the solenoid directly to the positive post of my battery. Thank you

I jumped post #1 And #2 there was spark but it did not turn the starter. I will now disconnect #3 and run a wire to the positive post of the battery. Thx will keep you updated.

I connected the #3 to the positive post of the battery I am not getting a turn to the starter. I also did some hammering around the starter and the solenoid still no reaction to the starter. Does this mean my starter is bad? Is there a way to check the condition of the starter without removing it? Thx

I don't know of a way to check it, unfortunately. They are not terribly difficult to remove.

Thank you all. I am in KanKan Guinea. I got an auto electrician. He replaced the solenoid brush and got the starter working. I was surprised that the solenoid brush were available here. He also got my fuel shut off valve working now I can turn off the engine without manually choking it. Replaced some blown fuses. Cause by prolonged rubbing to the frame because of rough roads. Thank you for all your help. Tomorrow we are continuing to Côte d’Ivoire.
