Hello All -

I’m in search for a used LX570 and could use some guidance. I would like a 2013 but would also be fine with a 2011 if the price was there. I’m looking to stay under $40k What are the main things you would look for or stay away from? I’m located in MN and I’ve seen a bunch in IL & WI - Do you stay away from those, due to possible rust from salt? With proper maintenance, is 80k - 90k ok? Is the difference between a 13 and an 11 worth the difference in cost? Any insight from anyone who was in the same boat, would be much appreciated!

I would get a Southern 2013+. Come out to LA. I can’t go a day without seeing 5-7 in my neighborhood and more on the streets

2011 has ugly front end and ugly rear end

2013 updates really makes it look a lot nicer front and rear

Look at a gorgeous 16 LC vs a 08 LC and see the differences

2013+ is a gorgeous year for LX

My wife has had a 09LX, 13 LX, 15LX, and now 17 LX (the best one so far)

No issues with 80-90 k miles, as long as they are well maintained

LX seems to be less beaten up and more pampered, so they are used market gems

Good luck

I think Ryan said it well! Only thing I would add is I think the 13-15 200 series looks the best. Best looking LC is the FZJ80. But hard to find a low mileage

Thanks! I tend to agree with you on the 13 looking better. I’m trading in a ‘16 Maxima with 18k miles for an SUV that is 3 years older and could have 90k miles on it.....and adding a decent amount of cash to the pot too. My wife is a little skeptical of purchasing a vehicle with such high mileage - I keep trying to tell her these are tanks

Thanks! Yeah, I just had a coworker get a 97 FZJ80 with 107k Miles on it for $10k - Thing is mint. Looks amazing.

Would you marry an ugly woman ?

Don’t buy an ugly car that you will live with

I trade cars like no tomorrow. Traded a 800 mile brand new STi on a new RCF. RCF has only 2500 miles. Going to trade it on a new LC500.

But my constant is always a LC and LX in garage. Rest are all replaceable (most all are)

Save more if you need. Stick with 13+

Good luck

I guess I'm old school, but I find the newer they get, the more they are starting to look a bit ridiculous in the front end. Is this an Acura, or a Lexus, or Ultraman's custom ride??? :D

If your budget is under $40k, it’s extremely unlikely you’ll find 13+ LX that’s worth buying. Looks are subjective, and most people aren’t going to be able to tell a 13 from an 08. The vast majority of people don’t even have a clue what a 200 series is.
It

Thanks - What should I expect to pay for a 13?

Do you care about the various options? I don't recall all the options on the LX but unlike the LC it didn't come fully loaded in 2011 or 2013, so if you want the upgraded audio, cooled seats, rear entertainment systen, and some other goodies you may need to look at the 2011 to make the $40k limit.

Do you care about resale or are you planning to drive it until the wheels fall off? If you care about resale I'd look for a 2013 which has the facelift, or a low mileage 2011. If you're going to drive it 200k miles then ignore the mileage and/or body style find one that has the options you want since you're going to have it a while.

Overall 60/80/100k won't make much difference in the life of the vehicle. At one point I was negotiating on a 2008 with 100k but the dealer was asking $32k and wouldn't budge and I wasn't willing to go >$30k. I'm happy it fell through and I bought an LC, but the '08 LX with 100k miles drove and looked like new. If you're looking for vehicles with close to 100k there's a list of maintenance items in the 90-120k range that tend to come up (radiator, water pump, and starter are the big ones).

I would love to drive it into the ground. I know my ADD kicks in after 3-5 years and I want something else . If service records are in tact, how much stock do you put into the number of owners? I found one I like but it has been through 3 owners. It also looks as though it was last sold as a Lexus CPO (20k Miles ago).

I agree. The new LX 570 looks confused. The rear end and front end don’t blend well at all. The LX is not an off road vehicle anymore with its horrible approach angle thanks to the front end and the 22” tires look good on tarmac but won’t last on any decent trail. Is the LX trying to compete with the Escalade in the “look at me” category? The off-road capabilities are a complete waste at this point. Might as well go to a unibody platform. A damn shame because I really like the interior. However, it makes a great long distance traveler and ski ride. All right, I’d still buy it for the last two reasons. It’s very comfortable and will out last it’s competitors

I'm not a fan of the Lexus spindle grille.

I really like the way Lexus have moved on from being a more luxurious Toyota to becoming more independent in their designs and vehicle offerings. Look at how boring the design evolution of Audi and BMW, you can't tell the difference between their older and newer cars. Lexus best design have been with the LC500, but the rest are not far behind especially the LS F trim. What I would really like for the LX is the black grill that comes with the F sport trim offered on the other models, and not the TRD trim that is offered.

Hard to say. Some people have $ to throw around and change vehicles every year. I have a buddy like that - always a 2 year lease and regularly swaps it early. And sometimes people get a vehicle and end up not liking it (maybe they don't like the 3rd row, maybe it's too big, maybe the gas mileage is poor). A red flag to me would be the last 2-3 owners keeping the vehicle for a very short span (6-12 months), as if there's something wrong and they're trying to dump it.

Good call. I’ve always bought my cars new, so this is new territory for me. Having 2 kids and a Great Dane, would love to have the extra space and creature comforts of the LX - Just want to ensure the vehicle lasts
