TRIP REPORT! W/ PICS! Mayer to WALKER

Ok, so change in plans. I am instead going to take the family up to Mayer (off RT 69) and running the back way into Walker / Prescott. If anyone in the Prescott area or Phoenix area wants to go, PM me!

Thanks!

You guys missed the first snow fall of 2008! It was a BLAST! We ended up taking Bloody Basin Rd. To Mayer, Then Mayer to Pine Flats, Senator's Highway the backway into Walker, AZ. Just got home - tomorrow I'll post up some pictures of the snow. It was about an 1" to 1 1/2".

DUDE! That is so awesome! I'm glad you guys had a good time and made it back safe.

I hated to miss that run. You tailored a run for us, and we missed it!
We had Jill's dad in town for the weekend, so we were a bit tied up.
The run from Mayer to Walker is very familiar. It passes thru some beautiful places. We were in Walker on Sunday morning. By Sunday night it was covered in snow.
We drove Jill'd dad all over. On Sunday, we went to Sedona. (Lame by local standards, but he lives on Cape Cod.) We drove over Mingus on the way. We sat in a bistro watching the storm come in over the red rock cliffs. It was awesome! He got to see the onset of winter in the high desert.
He has never really believed that we have snow in AZ.
I was not ready to drive a 70-year old man over Mingus in a snow storm, so we went south. We went down to the 17, to the 169 highway, and west to Dewey. Then we drove north to Prescott. We did an end run around the storm. By the time that we got to Prescott, we were again on the leading edge of the storm. The sleet and snow was pretty thick at the higher altitude. It was snowing pretty heavily.
Now New England Papa believes in Arizona snow!
