For those of you keeping track I just found and purchased the first sub $15k 100 series in my area... A 98, 142k miles, rear locker, no frame, flood or salvage... copper in color, (just like my 85 fj-60).... I got it for $10k.... Just too good to pass up! I work for a dealership and it was traded in on a Sequoia, so I was able to buy it off of our wholesale lot. Man it's really nice... Still in shock I picked up a nice 100 for this price...... :D

Well maintained EXCEPT (which leads to my question), I could not verify the timing belt has been changed. I called the company that was logged in the service book for all the other tune up (which was done pretty much in accordance to the factory recommended which is nice... )but neither they nor my Toyota dealer showed timing belt service when referencing the VIN..Previous owner said it was done at 75k which I though strange, but I figured out she was referring to the serpentine belt.

Needless to say I can't chance it has not been done, so it's not being driven until I get her to the dealer in 2 days for the belt and water pump... I was quoted around $700.00 parts and labor for both.... With not much time to research my new toy... What else shoud I have them inspect/replace while they are in there that they would not normally? Cam seals, crank seal, tensioner?

Looking forward to learning more about the I force V8 and driving this quiet and smooth (compared to my 91 fj-80) creature......

I think it's wise to do the 90k. You might consider shocks as well if they have not been replaced; it will dramatically improve the ride IMHO.

$700 parts and labor for the belt and pump sounds good to me. They should replace any seal that is easily accessable when doing the timing belt.

This is my first dealing with a dealer service dept in a while, and the opportunity to pick up this beast came so fast I've had no time to do a lot of research on the 100 series...... so a little trepidation about dealer service, although the service writer said he'd never seen any leaking seals that needed replacing..... so didn't seem he was trying to sell me something unnecessary although I'm willing to bite the bullet to make sure all is well.

Shocks seem to be fine, but I have no other 100 series to compare against. Also, funny thing is all the other 90k service was done and documented as well as other service intervals. Makes me wonder if po didn't realize lack of a timing belt replacement could potentially be catastrophic. :crybaby:

$700.00 for the service sorta bites, but if I look at it in the overall investment I have in the vehicle I can't complain much I suppose.

Um, you got a 100 for 10k and you are worried about a 700.00 charge. s*** , man you should be dancing around ( :

would you please pm me the winning powerball numbers! $10,700 your luck is out, pass it on. :)

Not complaining about the $700.00 as long as its done right......

I've been lucky to be in an area with little demand for 90's up Landcruisers..... Here's the list of what I've been fortunate enough to aquire.....

91 FJ-80 $3500.00 192k 2.5 years ago
91 FJ-80 $4500.00 139K 2 years ago
91 FJ-80 $2700.00 193k 2 months ago
93 FZJ-80 $3000.00 F&R lockers, 245k 2 months ago
98 UZJ-100 $10,000.00 r locker, 142k this week

All trade ins I was able to aquire at wholesale price.... All very well maintained except the latest 91 which is kinda ratty. On the flip side of the coin... I've seen a lot of nice cruisers appraised that weren't sold or traded, because people knew the private market meant another $3k or more money they could make.. I do also expect to see more 100 series dropping, naturally, but gosh what a deal these will be to people like us who realize how much of a value this vehicle is for what you are getting! Hmmm $50k vehicle for $10k that still drives like a $50k vehicle..... Yeah I'll take that!

The only thing missing to round this run of recent luck out is a 40th anniversary edition for $5K!! :D

in theory if the timing belt was replaced by a Toyota dealership is "should" have a sticker someplace in the engine bay saying when and what miles it was replaced...........I say it should as my dealer forgot to stick mine on.......so I stoped by and picked it up. It comes with each timing belt.........

say, ya don't want to part with that 93 now that you have a 98...do ya? :grinpimp:

Dieselbigot..... The 93 has found a home with a family member... Imagine my surprise (I was told "hey there's a 92 cruiser being appraised)... to find out it was a 93, f&r lockers...etc.... $3k was a good deal for that.

For what I do the 80 has quickly become my favorite all around rig for comfort and ruggedness..... so much so that I'm about to sell 3 nice 40 series to make room for more of the 80's and who knows maybe the too good to pass up 100 series too..... Some of those may get passed to a good home at no proffit to me so......... I'll let ya know if and when I run across any more!! ;)
