Has anyone put 100w bulbs in Hella 500 fog lights? I picked some up in a clearance bin, but want to be sure I don't have 'thermal event'. TIA.

I put 100W bulbs in Hella 500's and twice had cracked lenses from them being hot and getting water on them. I think the 550's are a little deeper dish than 500's. Maybe they will be fine.

I ran and still have em on the truggy 85watt Piaa bulb that have the power of 120watt bulb and theyre whiter too... Maybe 5 or 6 years now work great

Together, the fog lights would be 200 watts which is about 17 amps. So if your wires are 12 gauge, and the fog lights are controlled by at least a 20 amp relay, and if you have high temp connectors at the lights, and if your alternator can handle it, and if the Hella 500s are rated for 100 W you should be fine. :D

Otherwise, you could have a thermal event.
