I recently installed a smartap led flasher relay in my 08 lx570 and after not finding much information on location, I figured this would be a good resource. This process is the same for any regular cf18 relay flasher, not specifically the smartap. I do like the smartap for a few reasons: variety of hazard patterns, tap to turn function ranging from 3-6 blinks without fully engaging to signal stalk, and a timed lock/unlock flash (I have mine set to stay illumated for 30 seconds).
Install time: 10-20 mins
Tools required:
-Flathead for popping retention clips
-Variety of socket extensions, universal joint, 10mm
-common sense
Start by removing the lower black kick panel by removing the two screws (white circles) and then press the three tabs in (white squares) to release the panel downward. Then leave hanging or remove with one electrical connection unplugged.
Then remove the upper panel by pulling with a reasonable amount of force. It's just held in with clips. Be reasonable and work your way around the edge. Blue circles are what I remember, there may be a couple more.
Once the panel is off, look to the lower left corner of the steering column and you'll see the flasher relay in question, clipped onto a bracket with one 10mm.
You may have to get a couple extensions and a universal joint to get the right angle.
