Looking to keep my stock HU (love the look) and fix my slightly blown factory speakers with something quality. Not opposed to an aftermarket amp, but would like to keep factory wiring.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I'd like to do a speaker upgrade on my 04 LC as well without having to do a bunch of involved enclosure modifications and whatnot. I'll keep an eye on this post for suggestions.

I disconnected the sub (you can reach in through the ashtray and pull the connector) and upgraded all four door woofers plus two front tweeters with budget Focal speakers. I did upgrade my head unit to an Alpine unit at the same time but left the factory amp and wiring. Sounds great and was well under $1k.

I second getting the factory speakers re-foamed. It's by far the cheapest option and you'll be really surprised at how good they actually sound. Make sure you re-foam the sub as well. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to do it and you can purchase the re-foaming kits on amazon and ebay for less the $50.

I had never even considered re-foaming the original speakers...I knew it is sometimes done on large home stereo speakers. Very interesting option.
