Kind of off topic.....
Has anyone done a cryogenic process treatment on their ARB lockers before installing?

Curious ? I'm thinking about doing it to my new 4.88 ring and pinion and possibly my front ARB lockers before installing them.

Any opinions?

Marc,

I believe that to be true when climbing rutted/big rock slopes. However even on steep slope climbs that are just covered with small loose rocks where the front is not articulating anywhere near its limits an 80 will walk right up unlocked whereas I typically will get to a point that I need to be locked in front.

I suspect an 80 has a heavier weight bias up front than our 100's...just a guess based on my field observations ;)

Sounds reasonable.
My only experience with loss of traction has been where one front wheel was off the ground (like your first example), a situation where my 60 would have kept going because of better articulation so that both tires on that axle would have kept in contact with the ground.

I think it was Jim_Chow who once posted a pic of a leaf sprung SAS 100. Jim, you still have that pic?

gears

I would not advise cryo for your gears, as I have seen many of them fail that were cryo'd. The gears we use already go through state of the art heat treating process, cryo is not necessary. I have even seen rockwell tests on the broken cryo gears and the results revealed great varience in hardness throughout.
