my rear hatch is broken. I took it apart and found that in the lock mechanism, there is a little black plastic piece riding over a thin piece of metal that has broken. Any creative fixes for this or is an entire new assembly the only fix?

I am uncertain about creative fixes but if you need the part, I should have it from a stripped 2000 LC. Just need to look.
