Hi guys,

I have a 100 series landcruiser (1HZ) and want to swap the engine for 1UZ, it is a manual gear,
could you guys tell me what i need to do for the engine mounting, manual gear housing, top shaft ?

Thanks,

I'm assuming you have a 105 series. I'd search the 80 series section for the 2UZ-FE swaps and that would be the most similar type of swaps you'd see on this forum.

Location/availability and cost would dictate what type of fuel/engine I'd want to run. I'm not that attached to the diesel engine. Cruising range would be the biggest draw to the diesel for me.

Clankity, clankity, clack. :meh:

A turbo would pep up the 1HZ a bit with a ton less work and at a much lower cost. :meh:

Plus, the 1UZ is kind of a small motor for a 100 series wagon. 4.0l, right? Great motor on the Lexus GS/LS/SC 400s, will it have the punch to push around a 2 1/2 ton truck?

Why i want to swap for a petrol engine ? because I live in Dubai and diesel is more expensive than petrol....

Also because i have this diesel LC and i dont use it, now i have a fully stroker 1UZ engine, and planning on putting it into this LC to have some fun with the car instead of keeping it always in the parking :),

If anyone can help regarding the procedure of putting 1UZ into this LC it would be great ;)

Well, you'll have to start your research that's for sure

So, here is a good laundry list of starting places,

What drivetrain do you plan to attach to the motor? Compatibility of bell housings, gear boxes, transfer case, drive shaft lengths if you change gearboxes with different lengths.

Then there will be adapting it to a dissimilar truck. New/different cross members , motor mounts, exhaust, routing for cooling and fuel, adding an electronic pump to the tank, engine ECU and all other associated electronics tied into the gas motors that the 1HZ doesn't have, steering lines, gear shifter linkage, etc, etc, etc.

It's doable and if you have some fab skills and technical prowess, would be a neat project.

Thanks for the reply,
I thought someone here have already done engine swapping and could help me out on this,
i will talk to my mechanic and see what he can do,
regarding the electrical stuff and ecu everything will be running on motec M800, electrical and wiring stuff arent an issue only mounting the engine, gear housing and these things are what im concerned about...

Yeah, that's why somebody mentioned the 2UZ as it's already in the truck. The one thready posted has some decent info, but it's just not a common swap you'll see here aside from the few Aussies that post up, the US Spec only comes with a gas motor and I don't think anybody here is going to swap the 4.7L 2UZ for a 4.0L 1UZ.:meh:

Good luck and post up any progress:cheers:

I suggest looking at lcool.org. They seem to do more swapping down there, tho' I haven't heard of >1uz. Seems to be a few hzj with LS1 engine tho'.

I understand why he would want to get rid of 1hz it's completely underpowered, and not good on fuel
Mileage anyways. I just switched from 1hz by selling my 80s...couldn't be happier)

That was already asked and answered. Let's quit judging the OPs decision to do something unique and try to help him. I've got nothing in terms of technical tips but I am here to say shut up and let him have fun. I want to see this happen. phrogg4evr & uHu, thanks for trying to help.
