Rather than the OME 2.5" lift kit @ around $750 + install I was considering adding 1" spacers to the top of the factory coil springs for a litte extra tire clearance (285/75/16) and a more aggressive look.

Can these spacers be used with the factory shocks or are longer shocks required? Does anyone sell longer bumpstops to go along with the spacers?

If new shocks are required can anyone give me feedback on the Bilsteins for these vehicles or is there something better for 95% road/5% light offroad driving?

Thanks :)

Factory shocks will work with factory springs and 1 inch spacers.

UPDATE to my post!

I am going to buy Bilsteins for this rig and still get the 1" spacers.

Is there only one Bilstein set for the 80 series? A couple of old posts mentioned something about "secret" Bilstein number, maybe with a bit longer or with more travel?

Can anyone point me towards a good vendor for the spacers and bumpstops?

thanks again.

go ome...

save on the shocks & just get the OME springs...they work fine with stock shocks... that's what I did...just my .02...

My research indicates the OME shocks are made by Tokico and in all the shock experiences I've had Bilsteins are a far superior product to Tokico. Is there a specific reason you suggest I get the OMEs? I understand the Bilsteins aren't designed for a huge 6"+ lift but I only want to raise it 1".

oh...

I just mearly suggest that ya consider the springs...keep the oem shock...for a $$ standpoint... the springs make a nice diff. in the ride (firmer) IMO...and your doing almost the same labor to put on the spacers (just a lil' more time & they'd be done)... the spacers will crap out eventually, they are only rubber... I have bilsteins on the Lady's truck... they are OK I think... I've wheeled mine with the stock shocks for 2 years & am just now putting on OME shocks.... either way, whatever you choose will be best for you...you'll dig the 2" lift...you'll barely notice a 1"...but then again, thats just me

O M E shocks are made by Monroe.

O E M shocks are Tokico.

I have 285's on mine. I put the Mr. Gasket one inch spacer on the front and used Man-a-Fre's 1 inch spacer on the rear. At first I had the stock shocks on it and had no problems with it rubbing. I just was getting sick riding in it with the stock shocks. I switched them out to the replacement Bilsteins and would highly recommend them. They changed the ride, for the better, tremendously. Nice comfortable, controlled ride that is still very "nice".

The only thing I would do different would be to use MAF's spacer in the front as well. The Mr. Gasket is a very soft rubber that sagged pretty quick. The MAF spacers are a hard polyurethane type material that are much better.
