I was reading through some old posts on suspensions and I noticed something that made me start thinking. Since some people have used 863's for rear springs (OME 80 springs that give an extra inch of lift over 866's) could someone use stock 80 springs to gain an inch over stock 100 springs? Then they could crank their stock t-bars up to level out the vehicle.

I'm asking this out of curiosity since I am going to install OME lift soon. But, for someone looking for a little extra ground cliearance but keep the stock ride, this may be an option. I don't know if this will even work, any comments?

Well, why not get the 865’s with the lift ( ~2in over stock)? People tell me that they ride nice. I’ll be putting mine on Friday. Unless you had a set laying around it don’t think it will be worth it to put stock 80 springs on. ;)

In some of Christo's old posts, he mentions using the OEM 80 rear springs on a LX470. I was thinking about doing that as well since I have some laying around.

863's will lift your rear-end over 3-inches compared to stock on an unloaded rear end (no steel bumper, tire carrier, etc). WITH the 863's AND a Slee bumper/carrier I'm almost 3.5 inches over stock.

Some people may not want 2 inches of lift. Or they might not want the firmer ride of the OME springs. That's kinda where I was going with this. If you had some laying around you could theoretically get a one inch lift with no cost. Plus, for people wanting to keep the stock suspension in tact (ie stock shocks and t-bars) there wouldn't be a trade off of running stock shocks on a lift since the spring rates would still match the dampening of the stock shocks.

edit: sorry, this post was in regards to DMX's post. The other posts came in while I was typing.

**Had what lying around? 863's? That's 3+ inches. 865's are just under 2 inches.

**Fine, though NOBODY would choose the ride of a stock 100 over a OME lifted 100 if you get the basic 40mm lift. It's still VERY cushing yet so more controlled.
**If you're asking how to keep your stock suspension yet lift an inch, then that's CAKE. Add two 10mm trim packs to the top of each rear spring then adjust T-bars accordingly. Same ride, just 1-inch higher.

John,
Please go back and read my first post. You're confused on what I was asking. I'm talking about STOCK 80 springs to give around an inch of lift. My reference to 863's was that they are about an inch taller than 866's. Is this not true? If it is, then my logic was that a STOCK 80 spring should be about an inch taller than a STOCK 100 spring. Personally, I'm not a big fan of trim packers, and even for a one inch lift I would go for taller springs over spacers. As far as ride quality goes, I'm not debating that the ride of the OME suspension is better.

In this thread, I am merely pointing out a way to lift a stock vehicle an inch without having to change any other components other than the rear springs.

Oh ya. Gotcha. Don't know on that. Sure wouldn't take a chance on the spring rate either. I ran trim packs in the 100 and with intense 4-wheeling for 80K miles until I added the rear bumper and 863's. No concerns on TOP of the spring. It's the same as a spacer. What's going to happen?

I’m considering a 10mm spacer on my 865’s, so I’m interested in what might happen.
I’m also considering the use of an air bag to help with the added weight of my trailer.
When I put my trailer on the back (tong weight just over 300lb) the stock suspension would sag and bounce badly over bumps in the road. It rally sucked, but I don’t want to give up a nice ride for the sake of having a nice tow rig.
So, I think the air bag trick will help in this situation. Just air it up once a month when I tow.
I can see where the stock 80 springs could have some advantage if you didn’t want to use an OME lift. It would be an easy mod to get one inch of lift, but I wouldn’t buy new sprigs though.
