Mudders,

I just attempted to purchase an 06 LX with a mere 76k miles. Prior to delivery, the dealership went to address an open recall at the nearby Lexus dealership (apparently just issued-- details below) and determined the part would not be available until September. The end result: they could not/would not sell me the rig. They stated it might go to auction to another dealer, but did not share details. All very odd.

I have no affiliation with this vehicle or its sale, but thought to pass the info along. It looks to be in really great shape, maybe another mudder will come across it and benefit from my loss.

That is odd. The recall came out last week so no remedy has been published. Are they not going to sell any vehicles affected by this for 6 months? I suspect they will sell to a dealer and let them take any responsibility. If you have a dealer friend, you could get them to purchase it and then sell to you.

Tried to purchase a '07 Sequoia a few months ago and the Toyota dealer did the exact same thing to us. We drove to an out of town dealer to buy the truck only to get there and find out that they had pulled car from the sale lot due to a pending airbag recall. Salesman took my info and put me on the top of the list to buy once the recall was done. They continued to follow up with me for weeks on the status of the vehicle only to state that the replacement airbag parts were on backorder from Japan with no ETA. Needless to say we moved on and purchased a different truck. I got a call a few months later from the dealership again stating that they still had not received the parts so the truck was still being held up....crazy stuff!

Moral of the story....unless you want to wait for eternity I'd move on to another truck.

hmmm, if this is going to be dealer practice until the recall remedy is issued in september, i see an increased value on individual sales of these (and other affected) vehicles. and a declining trade-in value as dealers won't want to touch something they can't sell for 7 mos.

So in theory you can leverage to get these vehicles from private party a bit cheaper since dealers probably wont take these in as trade-in, assuming you don't mind driving them before getting them fixed. Never thought of it that way, that's interesting... thanks for posting this.

Or they can command higher prices since you can't get them from a dealer.

true, to a degree. the flip side of the coin is the dealer may eat the 7 mo. carry on a bigger vehicle that is generally in short supply already, in order to make a sale on a new LX or LC, then park the car on a remote lot w/ a cover on it for half a year. thereby reducing the supply available to the market and in turn increasing the value.

that was my original thought.

yea, it's all how you look at it. I think the higher individual prices would prevail, it's already a niche vehicle with a small production #. It's not like a F150 or Tundra, where they are a dime a dozen. Just looking online, you rarely see them last more than 7-10 days it seems, at least for average to above average condition

It is going to Manhiem Auction on Wenesday. I even called in a favor from Sewell Corp and I could not get it. Very very clean rig. Not all dealers will do this.

Man that's a nice truck!

I'm sure others have similar access, but will be interesting o see what Mannheim lists it for.
