So my Sequoia has not been able to shift into 4wd for a while now. It will, with some back and forth motion apparently complete the shift, and the 4WD light on dash comes on, but once it does, I’m essentially in neutral. No motion in either drive or reverse. This is the electronic shift from 2WD to 4WD. Hi/Lo shift is completed with the actual shift lever, not electrically.
2WD works perfectly. It seems to me like it’s not completely moving the shift actuator through its range of motion, but my knowledge of this system is limited, as is that of most of the Toyota “experts” I’ve talked to. Does anyone here have any insight into how this system actually works, and what could cause a partial shift?
I’ve watched a couple of videos on the actuator function, and some people say it’s vacuum actuated, and some say electrical. Obviously it is necessary to know how it really works in order to fix the issue.
