I changed the oil today for the first time.

The oil filter I got from pep boys was significantly smaller than the one previously installed by the dealer. Pepboys confirmed that according to them it was the correct filter.

I played it safe and re-installed the dealer filter.

I rememnber on my GS there were two filter options, one larger and one smaller.

What is the correct alternative larger filter for the LX?

Lexus only?

Thanks.

The dealer filter has a P/N that ends with a -YDZZ3 (or pretty close to that). Off the top of my head, I'd guess the P/N is 909215-YDZZ3. Get it from the toyota dealer, only around $5 each. It's the same oil filter for the 4runner V8, Tundra, and Sequoia (2UZ engine). Lexus dealer uses the *exact* same filter, even in the red Toyota box. I find that my lexus dealer charges 50% more for parts than Toyota. The smart way (if you plan to do your own wrenching) is to buy parts in bulk from CDan. IIRC, I paid like $3.05 for each -YDZZ3 filter (use those on the 4runner), and you can buy the better -20004 filter only from CDan since he occasionally imports them directly from Toyota in Japan. No other dealer in this country stocks that filter. You can run 7.5K mi filter change intervals with that filter, as it's the factory filter and what the 7.5K mi oil changing interval is based on. The new OCI after toyota in the USA went to the cheaper filter is 5K mi.
