Up for sale is my 2003 LX470, affectionately named Lexie, located in Charleston, SC.

Interior and undercarriage pics are located in the next post

She has carried me all over North America, from the Outer Banks, Colorado, the Northeast, and beyond, but don’t worry - she’s spent her entire life in the South (13 years in Florida with the first owner, and 3 years in SC with me), so rust is not a concern. You’re inheriting a meticulously cared for truck, as evidenced by my restoration thread here. She was in rough shape when I bought her, but I have replaced what feels like every part on her so that she’s road ready for a long time. All totaled, I’ve spent $11,700 in upgrades, repairs, and maintenance (all receipts will be provided to the new owner). Some highlights, all done since I bought it in December 2017 (full list is available upon request):

  • Timing belt and associated bits (T-stat, fan clutch, water pump, etc.) still have ~60k miles of life left
  • Reman OEM brake booster assembly installed
  • 5 Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires installed with only about 10k miles on them
  • Almost every AHC component has been replaced and is functioning flawlessly with 15+ graduations on the reservoir - globes, pump, springs, fluid, switch - everything but the lines and shocks are new.
  • All fluids are Mobil1 synthetic (where applicable) and are will not need attention for a while.
  • New A/C compressor and condenser
  • New C/V joints (DS outer boot has a pinhole in it)
  • New brakes all around
  • Upgraded navigation computer to display newer maps
  • Valve cover gaskets replaced
  • Grille and taillights updated to 06-07 style
  • Front diff bushing replaced to eliminate the “thunk"
  • New battery
  • New VGRS actuator
  • New tie rod ends
  • Bluetooth phone and media streaming installed

Notes:
  • The sunroof is inop (seized DS line) and has a small leak (a few drips of water after a heavy rain). I was going to seal it but figured I would let the next owner decide whether they wanted to replace the line or seal it up.
  • The front seat leather appears in good shape from 5 feet away, but was painted by the PO in places.
  • Has a non-OEM passenger side mirror. OEM mirror is included with sale.
  • There small, pin-sized dents in the doors. The PS fender has a baseball-sized dent and scuff from popping the garage while backing out. It’s a 16 year old truck pushing 300k, she hasn’t been a pavement queen in quite some time 🙂

I’ve loved every moment of perusing the 100-series forum and have learned so much from y’all, but it’s time to downsize now that I’m driving more.

Mileage: 287,250

Impressive write up/listing

I’m not sure if I’m impressed or scared to death to buy a 100 series now. 😆 I think this should be titled “totally restored 100 series except sheet metal”.

That’s basically what I’ve done 😂 don’t be scared though, only a small percentage of what I did to it was necessary repairs.

I’m bouncing around between a 200 series, a GX 460, or jumping ship completely and getting an LR4 👀

I've toyed with the idea of getting an L494 RR but finding them with lo-range Tcase is rare, it's just a regular SUV now. they're nice to drive though, can't speak for reliability, i'm sure it wont make it to the mileage your Lexus has now.

wow that month by month breakdown of work and cost is not really what I was expecting.. I have no doubt the truck is in great shape right now.. However I now have a different perspective of these "legendary" LC trucks...

Yeah it’s tough to find LR4s with the HD package but that’s a non-negotiable. I just test drove a GX though and appreciate that there are only 3 trims, no packages really, and all come with a low range and CDL

Well it was under maintained when I bought it so I had to play a little catch up

have been looking around a 100 for a few weeks now.. really enjoyed the notion of a "tank-like" truck, at a similar price point at what I can sell my subaru for.

I think posts like this is painting a more realistic picture for me.. I'm less inclined to go the LC100 route now...

Or just snag mine - it’s already sorted for you! 😎

My wife's LX is also named, Lexie. Nice rig, good luck!

You have to keep in mind most 100's are nearing 20 years old. No hate towards Subaru, but comparing one to a land cruiser shows you might need to do more research. 100's are legendary. They were built to go places few other vehicles are able to dream about, while most 20 year old subaru's can be taken out of service permanently by a parking lot curb. All vehicles have belts, hoses, and other consumables that need to be replaced with wear. If you buy one that has not been kept up properly, it can get expensive fast. You will be challenged to find a 100 that has ever needed a transmission or engine gone through, even at 3 and 400k miles. I will say, Landcrusiers, or 100's are really not smart for those that are on a limited income.

I must say, I am thoroughly impressed by the write-up and transparency. You could've certainly done the exact same thing that the PO did to you to somebody else - kudos taking the high road.
It's a bummer you are on the opposite side of the country. Though the miles are higher than I would like... the work you've done to clean the rig up certainly helps to make those miles much more justifiable.

Thank you! I did think about unloading her after the first month, but I'm glad I saw it through. She's taken us places we never knew a vehicle could go! It is a lot of miles, but pretty much anything breakable on this rig has been replaced - everyone jokes with me that it's basically a 2019 Lexus at this point
