This is for my '03 V6 4runner 4WD. Yesterday, out of no-where I had my VSC Trac, VSC Off, ABS and Parking Brake lights all come on at the same time. I was driving down the interstate when I noticed them. They went off after a few minutes and have come on intermittently since then. The CEL has not come on. I leaning towards a sensor or something like that being the issue. Has anyone else had all of these lights come on at the same time? I have heard that the VSC Trac and VSC Off come on any time the CEL comes on. I'm wondering if they do the same thing with ABS. If it is the ABS sensor(s), how difficult are those to change?

Thanks!

Yep, that was the first thing I checked. Fluid level was good. Thanks for the thought though!

Have you had the computer scanned recently? Checked Codes?

Reset the "Zero Position" for the Traction Control. Search any Taco or 4-runner forum and you will find instructions.

So are you saying the lights turn off by themselves without you having to unhook the battery to reset the computer?

Have you tried unhooking the (neg term) battery, waiting 5-10 minutes, then hook it back up?

As silly as it sounds. I think all these lights were coming on just because my brake fluid was a little low. Good call 74FJ40.

i.e. when I would come around a corner it would sense that the fluid was low and the lights would come on. I topped off the reservoir and I haven't seen the lights for a week. I only added a few ounces.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Same problem caused by leaking axle seal. Replaced seal and cleaned sensor. Lights are now off.

I hate to bring this old thread back to life, but this problem persisted after topping off the brake fluid. I ended up taking it to the dealership and they pulled a few codes from the right rear abs sensor and they also said the bearing was bad back there. They wanted $1,500! for the repairs and there was no guarantee that this would fix the issue. So, I got a list of all the parts they wanted to replace and ordered through their parts department where they only charged me $500 for the parts. Ended up doing the work with a fellow board member (Polak), although we had to take the rear axle to a local machine shop to get the retainer ring cut off and pressed back on ($50). We did everything else ourselves.

Unfortunatley, this didn't resolve the issue. I took it back to the same dealership to run more diagnostics, there were a few more things they suggested doing, i.e. changing the battery (low voltage signal) and the front left caliper. The previous owner or mechanic put an oversized caliper on this side so the entire pad wasn't on the rotor.

At this point I wanted a second opinion. Thankfully, I have a co-worker who has a family member that works for a dealership as well. He agreed to look it over. He made some suggestions. which included everything the dealership said in addition to both front bearings.

After changing all of these things I still had the error codes, so it went back to the dealership and after diagnostics they suggested replacing the rear right wiring harness for the ABS and a Zero Point calibration.

Well, that did it! So once it's all said and done here is the grocery list of things done:

Rear right bearing
Rear right ABS sensor
Both front bearings
Front Left Caliper
Front brake pads
Resurfaced rotors
Battery
Rear right ABS wiring harness
Zero Point Calibration

Pretty much a brand new truck. At least the ABS is functioning before winter. Puts me at ease with the wife driving with the little one.

Im having this issue right now and its getting old.. Heavily considering selling it or trading it in on a new 4runner.. Love the truck but not ready to tackle any of these electrical issues and dumping money in it..

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. Ended up being the ABS/VSC computer module that just fried for no reason. $1100, sorry to say.

Sorry you got a bit of a run around. It is almost always a wheel speed sensor and the Zero point on these 4th gen trucks.
