There is an 01 Cruiser in Kansas that I am looking to buy. They are asking 19,900. It is like new body and interior with 98K miles. They don't have the maintenance records, but offer 3 month 3000 mile warranty on drivetrain. I was wondering what some more experienced Cruiser heads thought about the amount of rust on the undercarriage. It looks ok to me, but I wanted to see what you thought. I also posted this under the classified listing under the name tfrain (this is my wife's sign on - needed more pic posting allotment).

Thanks to anyone who can give me an opinion!

What beach did that thing get sunk in?

edit: I've seen pics of guys undercarriage on here that had some rust on theirs and it didn't seem to bother them. I have a few spots but nothing to that extent. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say if that much rust is something to worry about or not. I just know I haven't seen it like that on a 100 before.

That is more rust than I have seen on a 100 series. That said the price is good. If the 90000 miles service was done, and the tires and brakes are in good shape so much the better. You can always attack the rust with some converter spray and then put a coating on the undercarriage. When I used to live back east there was such a thing a ziebarting (not sure of the spelling) that was really big.

90K service, with timing belt, water pump, drive belts, wheel bearing, and all wil probably run $1200 to $2000. You will need to do this pretty soon if it has not been done.

I know of no way to inspect if it has been done.

Hope this helps.

You will love this truck!

I would do a carfax to see where it lived previously.

You can get a '01 CPO w/ 64K mi So. California LC (i.e, no rust!) for $23.9K at Tustin Toyota. The CPO is worth like $1.5K. There are lots of '00's w/ 75-90K mi in So. CA in the $19-22K price range. Having lived in Upstate NY for 6 yrs, I'd never buy any used vehicle from the Midwest/Northeast. Look on autotrader (I used my old LA zip code of 90275).

That's a lot of rust and for an '01 in my opinion and I had an east coast FJ60!!

I just bought a '00 LX w/ 78k for $21.8K, I personally would look somewhere else...

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am ruling out this cruiser.
