scraping

Within 800 meters of having reversed then driving, usually 5-10 seconds of this horrific noise. If I park so I don't have to reverse, then it usually doesn't happen. I know little about cars. Any idea what this could be? Turning doesn't effect it, and if it starts braking doesn't really stop it...
