Differential Oil Replacement - Every 15k required?

I told my mechanic to change my differential oil. He inspected it and "saw there was no water in it" and told me it's a waste of money to replace it. He told me if it was his vehicle, he wouldn't do it. I asked him how often he recommends I replace it then and he said every 30k to 40k miles...

    Oil weight & pressure

I have a 2015 200 series with 98k. I posted another thread over the weekend on a timing chain tensioner noise. Thanks to the great folks on this forum for weighing in. I’m now looking to go to 5w-20, which is what the owners manual says you can go to if 0w-20 isn’t available. Is it better to...

    High Oil Pressure

2002 100 series, 282k miles. Oil pressure is stuck on high. I changed the oil pressure sensor, the one down at the oil filter, and no change. Anyone else ever seen this. Everything I see is about low oil pressure and the above always fixes it…. Thanks in advance guys.

    Oil dipstick o-ring

Barely tech, but I couldn't find a writeup for it, so just adding to the collective. It was recently suggested here that I replace my dipstick o-ring. I didn't even know I had such a thing. Well sure enough, there is an o-ring on the bottom of the hard tube that guides the dipstick into the oil...

    Knuckle Oil Leak after rebuild?

I just rebuilt the front axles a month ago. While changing my oil I noticed some moisture/oil buildup on the bottom of the knuckle/arms (sorry don’t know what everything is called), however there is no grease leaking onto the knuckle itself. That is an old stain on the knuckle so disregard that...

    Axle Oil Leak Diagnosis

Hi All, I have a 97 LX450. I had the front axles rebuilt about 2 years ago but now I have a significant leak coming from the front passenger axle. Oil Viscosity

For those who have switched to 5W-30 oil, you might find this of interest. I might have to rethink my paradigm.

Where does your oil pressure needle sit

Just curious to compare. With engine off, my oil pressure needle sits far below the lowest tick mark. Is this normal? Where does yours sit? I was thinking that it should sit exactly at the lowest tick mark.

Truck out of oil… need opinions!

So I had the LC serviced (135k) at the local Toyota dealer this weekend… I smelled a bit of oil the last couple times I started it and today notice spots on driveway which prompted investigation under truck… sure enough it has leaked enough oil to basically cause it to not register on the...

1HDT - HELP: Excessive OIL in the intercooler pipes.

I am a bit confused by this and I'm curious is anyone has been in a similar situation: I have a 1993 HDJ80 with a 1HDT. Stock CT26 Turbo, Stock Tune, etc. I recently built and installed a front mount air-to-air intercooler in the hopes of lowering my EGTs on long hauls and mountain passes...

Timing cover, timing plate, or oil pan leak?! -- Diving in TOMORROW regardless

Got my newly rebuilt engine running, and noticed a slow drip coming from the timing cover area. There was a mix of coolant and oil, and after confriming the Hose of death on the underside of the waterpump was leaking ( PN 90910-05155) I assumed this was my only issue. I tightened a clamp and it...

2LTII Oil cooler split in half, is it weldable?

I think i found the reason why the head was toast. The previous guy used water instead of coolant which froze and cracked this in half, all the water leaked out, the temperature gauge doesnt work so it overheated

    Bulk oil refills?

Are there any suppliers out there that sell bulk oil? I would love to be able to just keep a couple 5qt jugs of oil around and when I use them go get them refilled. Between my five cars I change a lot of oil and I don't like tossing those jugs in the garbage. Might not exist, but just thought I...

    Remove Oil Pan #2

Looks like in some point in time someone wrapped the leaking oil drain plug on my 2005. Anyone removed oil pan #2? Did you have to Jack up the engine due to the interferences? I’m thinking I’ll just use a steel cup brush to bash away the FIPG or whatever that is, open my drain plug and replace...
