distributor upgrade

I have a fully stock 1985 FJ60. 2F engine passes smog and is driven daily in California. My OEM distributor is in bad shape and I was considering an hei replacement but on every one I see, the cam gear is mounted collar down andI don't believe this will clear the hole to allow it to full seat...
