I found this sitting in my garage, I think it's been there for the past decade, way before I even thought about buying a cruiser. I think this is a toolbox that belongs on a toyota, but I'm not sure what year it's for. I know i've seen this just recently, but I can't seem to find the thread where i saw this, or if it was even on this forum. Can anyone identify it and tell me what it was for? Thanks

I think you should send it to me, and I'll take a closer look....:D

Wow! That's one of the cleanest examples I've ever seen! That's a *very early* OEM toolbox, came in some of the FJ25's, some of the early FJ45s, and some early Stouts. These are nearly unobtanium, there's only a handful of them that I know of out there, in the hands of some of the "Cruiserabilia" collectors!

Alright... I give up... How Much?

Me like that a bunch!

Wow, I had no idea. It's been in my garage for as long as i can remember, my dad bought it at a garage sale a long, long time ago. I think he paid a few dollars for it. I came out to work on my cruiser one day and found it sitting in the drivers seat. He was cleaning out the garage and thought I'd want to keep it. The rust in the picture looks worse than it really is, most of it would probably come off without much effort. Thank god for SoCal weather, I won't have to worry about it disinegrating before my eyes. If it's rare, i probably shouldn't mess around with it too much should I? I was thinking of blasting it and giving it a fresh coat of paint, but now I'm thinking I'll probably just clean it up a bit.

I know I saw one very similar to it not too long ago, but I've been searching through all the forums, but I can't find the pictures that i was looking for. Now i'm thinking it must have been buried in one of the restoration threads.

Sorry, but right now it's not for sale. Maybe in the future. :D

it's junk...send it to me and i'll take it to the scrap yard.

I thought early 40's had them too. My OEM 64 owners manual shows the tool box and tools but it came with the canvas roll. I'll look tonight to see if it lists the tools.

Ebay.....see if it will garner more than that NOS 45LWB tailgate last year....

I wouldn't get on it with anything more than dish soap and terry cloth if I were you, and then dry it thouroghly, maybe with a heat gun. Then wax it with car wax. When you are done, maybe store a little piece of cedar in it. That thing is cool. I'd be really curious what you could sell it for.

I'll bid $1,000,000 for it! I can send out the funds tomorrow and provided you can find a bank to convert Vietnam Dong to USD you'll be ready to rock and roll! Or you can just hang onto the 1,000,000 Dongs for a trip...

Here is my 64 manual in PDF. Page 37 of the manual and I think 21 in the pdf shows the tool box and tools. HTH

Thanks for the link, it was very helpful. I'm starting to think I should probably stop using the toolbox to hold my nuts and bolts as I work on the cruiser, and keep it safe somewhere. And I found out what my dad paid for this box. A whole dollar. Of course this was probably back in the early to mid 90's so a dollar then is probably worth more like a $1.25 today after inflation.

Sonoranfun,
It's a deal. Please send your bank account info to my online escrow service, www.scam4u.net, and I'll ship the box from nigeria tomorrow morning. With $1 million dong I could get at least 2 good looking vietnamese hookers, or twice as many ugly ones.

Poser,
What's a NOS 45LWB tailgate? Cuz believe it or not, I have some sort of cruiser tailgate that came with my FJ40. I know it doesn't belong on my 1975 FJ40, but it would fit perfectly with the doors off. Looks very similar to this one, except i think mine is in much better condition.

Has 3 hinges on the bottom row, and a couple of those latch things on either side. Actually I was gonna start a new thread on it because I'm not sure what year or model it's supposed to be for either and I'm kinda curious.

That is a tailgate for a factory soft top 40, and similar to the tailgate for a SWB45 pickup(Short Wheel Base) and with a little work, would easily work on your 40.

In the event that for some reason you do not want to hang on to it, please let me know, as I would purchase it, or trade you items you may want or need for it. :)

Send pictures and measurements to Ehsan in Pakistan...

I'd love to have one of those, even if it is a reproduction.
