Just kinda stumbled upon this site: http://techinfo.lexus.com/

Seems pretty interesting, didn't know if anyone had any firsthand experience with it or not.

It does look interesting. I may try it for a day for $10.00. I'm trying to diagnose a CEL on the 98 Avalon, but I don't have the FSM. I bought a code reader, and I guess for $10.00, I could download the diagnostics, perhaps even print the entire FSM.

Here is a thought. We could ALL go in on one and have it be a communal reference point. One year for maybe 10-12 people. I would organize it i.e. pay for it, only distribute the User Name/PW to those that paid and keep up with anything that is needed. OR we could be really good citizens and buy the service and let even the 80's guys have it ( :

I bought it one evening and spent a total of about three hours downloading the entrie FSM for my 100. Now I have all the sections in .pdf format, its great. Only spent $10. It does take time and the sections are not named well, so you would have to do what I did and name them differently than they come from the server.

Sounds like a good plan, I'm in if you decided to do it.

Im on a perminate subscription, great site if you are familar with toyota fsms

How does this compare with the $150 hard copy? Is it really true that most of the manuals are available this way? Having it on disk would mean that I could print the pages out as needed...

A link to this site in the Faq would be great!

So what's the deal, any takers here? Sounds like a good idea...

My only question would be can you log in with the same password at the same time on different machines?

And I would only want to do this if it was restricted to the paid users.

No, you can't log in from two different computers at once. I bought the 24 hour version yesturday to get some diagnostic stuff for the Avalon, and was trying two computers at once at work. It wouldn't let the second one log in.

It takes FOREVER to download all the sections of the FSM, even with DSL, so I did as much as I could stand- the main stuff like OBDII codes, maintenance, suspension, etc, and let it ride.

Having it available everytime you need to look up a specific item would be very helpful.

From a legal aspect (no, I'm not a cop or attorney), it states that the rights are to one user only (like software or other media), if I read it correctly. Just thought I'd throw that in there. More power to ya.

Hmm, good point. I won't "borrow" music, videos, or software so I guess I might as well just buy the damn FSM and be done with it. Not being judgemental here, just personal choice.

Yeah, group buy probably not the best thing. Especially when IP's from all over the U.S. start popping up on one account :) I will do a daily thing as well or maybe a week. My main incentive is the fact that if you have 2 or more toyota/lexus products this seems pretty economical compared to multiple FSM's in hard copy. That adds up quickly and most of the info in those is beyond my wrenching ability to be perfectly honest. I'm only a   or maybe    at best so I'm not gonna even touch alot of those diagrams!!!

The other nice thing is you can just print off the necessary pages, when needed, and take them into the shop, instead of lugging both FSM's around. Mine are getting kind of greasy.

My subscription expired, but from what I could tell, if it was Toyota, Lexus, or Scion, it was there. Very complete. For $10.00 24 hour access, you should be able to find what you're looking for.

OK< help me out here. I have used other service manuals (Honda, Ford, Chevy) extensively and have always found detailed and diagramed instructions on periodic services and routine maintenance.

I just spent an hour on the TIS and the only service I found was how to change the engine oil and filter. I was looking for the factory method for replacing AHC suspension fluid and brake fluid, propeller shaft lube points, and front wheel bearing repack instructions per the 60K service for my LX470 and found nothing. I was also looking for the tranny fluid/filter service. From the forum here I see that many members have changed fluid, and one or two mention the filter, but I can find no reference to a filter in the TIS, and no procedure for changing fluid (though I've seen the one posted in this forum).

Am I missing something?
Thanks!

Well if you are missing it so am I! I just recently pulled 1400 files and could not find the service details for brake fluid replacement , tranny etc, it appears that I have a fair bit of the manual, but servicing and some detailed repair appears to be missing, and I thought I pulled all the files. Also the logic and specifiactions on how the auto tranny and other computers work is not there either. Would love to find the rest of the info. Any ideas anybody?

1 transmission is in a sepparate book from the repairmanual , on the column on the left scroll down to find the transmission section ,
2 matinence is listed in the owners manual for proper intervalls
3 filter for the transmission is not serviced during normal life of the trans ,,,,like a domestic one is ,,,,,
4 most general info on how it opperates is found in the new car features book ,,again listed in the tis left column, diagnostics is in the repair manual for how to troubleshoot a concern
5 ecu logic is considered to be non esential for a service or repair and is left out intentionally , most toyota logic is closeley guarded ,
6 hydroic trans flow charts are listed in the trans book.

For the most part, the TIS is nice. Some of the newer Lexus stuff can be hard to find. Since we use computerized R.O's for work, it makes it nice to have everything on the computer. There is a new version of TIS comming out soon. As far as filters for the tranny service, as far as I know there is not one. Just a fluid change for recomended maint. Suspension fluid: been a long time since i've done one but there is a prcoedure where you raise/lower the vehicle then bleed the resivours(under the vehicle....)
