Anyone ever use this stuff? A quick search on the net finds some pretty strong testimonials on Volkswagon TDI and Merc lists...

Thanks

I use it everytime I change my fuel filter on my '01 TDI.

Two cans fills the new filter for installation.

I thought you put the lubro moly diesel purge into the fuel for injection cleaning and such.. Do you really put it in the filter?

No sir. Diesel PURGE is specifically meant to go in between the fuel tank and engine. It isnt meant to be mixed (read diluted) with fuel. I fill my filter with it, then when the engine is started it is sent pure into the injectors.

If you have a high return pump with a fuel return line to the fuel tank (13BT, 12HT, etc which are spec'd to return 1lpm on the pump) then you would have to take the intake and return line off, dump into the can, and run it from the can.

If you have a low/no return line (such as the 3B's which has a return line to the injection pump only) one "could" fill up the fuel filter and be reasonably assured that all the product will be not diluted. The stock 3B fuel filter would not take the full can of Diesel Purge.

I just did my BJ74 last night. It seems peppier, with less smoke, however I've only a few minutes behind the wheel since doing it. I will track my fuel mileage and subjective assessment over the next few tanks of fuel. I was averaging 22-23impg with 35" SSR's and 4:11's with mixed driving.

It sounds like a bunch of snake oil to me, and it also sounds like something the will fawk your motor if you get things wrong.

I've found two cruisers that where for-sale on the net becaused they dumped graphite into the oil and it plugged the galleries. Motors where shot. Who would in their right mind dump graphite into their oil? And now there's this little wonder-drug you can dump into your fuel that can create something from nothing??

Ok... I'm a dumb ass. Here I was thinking oil filter, NOT fuel filter. I must have been in gasser mode yesterday.

Lubro is great stuff, all of us old Mercedes drivers use this product and it works great and does create a smoother running diesel. I am going to run some through my new bj60 today . . just my 2 cents

Interesting you mention this Greg, as I was in 4 Wheel last week and talked to Dan a little bit about the product. They carry Diesel Purge as well as two other similar products one that you add to the fuel and another that is run directly into the injection pump. The Diesel Purge stuff sounds like the strongest of the three.

I've heard good things about this product and plan to pick some up the next time I'm in Edmonton.

So I got around to running this stuff through my 12HT last weekend. It felt like the truck had more power but who knows if it really did or not. Anyway, the important thing is that my mileage has increased. I got 26.5MPG (Imperial) on the last tank which is a definate improvement. This was for about half city/highway and I was also not driving as conservatively as I usually do. There was also a massive snow dump in Edmonton which meant hubs locked and some 4H time. The other factor which I should mention here is that I ran Stanadyne through the tank at the same time for the first time, but I was running Howes before the treatment and getting consistent 24MPG

My mileage used to be up around 26 on the highway but I've noticed a decrease over the past half year or so (as the truck has been getting up to the 300k mark).

I think 26.5MPG city/hwy on a 12HT with 300000k is pretty good considering I have 3"+ of lift and agressive 33s. I'll post the MPG results of my highway trip when I return to Kelowna at the end of this week. I typically get 23-24 on the highway doing ~100

Overall, very pleased with the Diesel Purge + Standyne.

Oh and yes, I have corrected for the tire size by GPS. Tires are 255/85R16 TRXusMTs @ 38PSI

Hi gb

Please tell me what is typically the type of driving you do in your 74? Would it be mostly city and shorter trips?

Thanks

GB

I wonder if a person who drives around town in a stop and start, short trip needs this "Lubro Moly Diesel Purge,” more than the person who drives more long distances and gets to gear down from over drive to let the 13bt etc rev up to 3000 RPM.

At the moment my 74 only puffs a very little (hardly notice it) black smoke when I gear down on hills, other than that the 74's 13bt is almost smokeless. This I think is due to the long distance highway driving I do. Also I seem to have great power.

Does anyone concur?

Thanks

GB

I think it will benefit the engine no matter what type of driving you do. If you have buildup on your injectors it will affect the spray pattern at any speed.

And just because you can' physically see a plume of black smoke doesn't mean you arent getting 100% combustion.

I think this treatment will benefit those vehicles with higher k on them(200+). I didnt notice a lack of power, it was more the milage drop over time.

Also, just for reference, the can instructs you to run the cleaner at various different RPM ranges from idle to high throttle. Take that for what its worth.

you get over 25 mixed and only 23-24 on the hwy i don't undestand

A guy in my office that buys/sells/restores diesel MBs *swears* by this stuff, he said it's the first thing he does when he buy a "new" car and runs it regularly on his own vehicles. Said he's bought a couple of crappy running sedans for cheap that ran great after just one treatment.

I'm going to try it in my Jetta first, as I've definitely experienced a slight loss of fuel economy in it over the last year or so (lots of city driving and a short commute).
