i just finished installing remote power door locks in my wagon i bought a 4 door kit from kms carparts in coquitlam http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/Autoloc/detail.lasso?itemid=CK4000

very well made kit decent instructions the brain box remote reciever is 8 channel out put with provisions for starter kill and parking light flash , the most time consuming part was figuring out the ideal mounting locations for the solenoids so they would not interfere with the window regulator , it took me about six hours to strip my interior mount the solenoids and wire everything .

the big reason for me to do this was packing my 8 month old and 3 year old was getting tire some opening up four doors to put in two kids , now i can push one button and acomplish the same task .

the side bonus is the starter kill out put wich i plan to run into my edic , i will take my door skins off again next chance and throw some sound deading in there .

Did you manage to take some pictures? if you can't post them, email em to me and I will post them.

I am seriously interested in doing this project to my 60. Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where did you buy them?

Oh I see KMS Carparts.. I will try my local shops. How much $$ do you mind saying?

i need to take my door skins off again to put my speakers back in , i will take some pics , the kit cost me $189 canadian. kms ordered it for me and i had it in about a week it is a solid well built kit , all wires , fuses conectors come with the kit and good instructions on the web site , the only thing i did was run a fused 14 gauge wire from my batery direct to under my dash i mounted every thing under the drivers kick panel , it was an extremley smooth process i would give it a   degree of dificulty !

during my search for a door lock kit i did find one at princess auto for $79 but it looked cheap , you can buy the solenoids individualy at kms or a door lock kit with out remote for a little less there was another kit i should have bought with an alarm system for a few more $$ .

Hey Toynut,
I just ordered the kit from KMS. Spoke to a guy named Jody there. I ordered the model with the alarm. It was $230.95 .

I thought the alarm would be a good feature. I will use the starter kill thru my edic.

They said they have never ordered the one with the alarm before. So will have to let you know how it goes. I'm excited to install this. I already have my doors stripped down and just installed all my latches and what not's inside my doors. So I am familiar with the doors.

Any pictures of your solenoids install?

i will take some pics for you , dont use the suplied pieces of metal with holes that looks like strapping , i used a drill and drilled holes for the suplied screws to mount to the metal , the front doors were fairly easy just a basic straight up and down push pull , you will have to cut the plastic tubing off of the push rod and the holes are all ready in your door , on your rear doors the solenoids will need to be mounted in reverse as the push rods are monted horizontaly and the plunger will have to push in the oposite direction , on the rears you will have to take off the plastic trim covering the driver and passenger seat belt retractors ( good time to clean all the lint out and lubricate the retractors ) you will need to drill holes in the pillars and rear doors , the kit is pretty decent , i just walked in and bought a 5 th solenoid to install in my rear hatch , i will tap into my rear pasenger door circuit . the biggest problem was making sure the window regulator did not interfere with solenoid . i used that red tape that construction guys use ( it sticks to any thing and every thing ) to tape the wires to the inside of door skin so that they werent going to be hit by the window .

do the key locks still work in the doors? say your battery goes dead and you want to unlock later.........??

How much extra is the hatch lock? I might leave that one manual.... I dunno. My wallet is getting pretty thin with this truck.

Untill I get it on the road my wife is going to be fairly unsympathetic with my purchases.

I got a clapped out Mercedes diesel as a second car that is in dire need of not being the primary transport........

manual locks still work the only thing that doesnt work is the - anoying have to lift up the handle while closing the door , if you do this with the power door locks it sort of jambs it a little a quick re schooling of the passengers is in order you have a key fob so this shouldnt be an issue , my wife is a quick learner !

it's been soo long since I drove a cruiser I didn't even remember I had to hold the handle up. LOL

Hey do you have a picture where you put the rear door solenoid....? I am struggling on that one right now.

Front was superclean. rear is giving me grief. I know I will come up with a solution, but I am curious where you stuffed your solenoid into.....

The alarm kit is kinda cool. Lots of wires and pieces though. And the instructions are kinda s***. Will see when I get closer. :)

i will have to peel a door skin off because i cant remember , i believe i mounted it in reverse horizontaly so it would push the lock to close it !

Ok.

I will consider that too... when I find the local.

The front doors were stupid simple to find a decent mounting place. But those back doors are tighter.

So next question to ALL... if you were installing an Alarm, where would you put the speaker for it? I'm outside the truck would make it heard better. But inside it would deafen the thief. ??

I'm think under the hood somewhere...... Somewhere it won't get full of mud.

I will soon. The fronts are very easy.

The rear is harder. I will play with it soon. I am halfway thru installing my solenoids.
