Luckily the shocks are long lasting and the resale market for them is strong, especially on here, so you can sell those and buy the others for a small price difference.
Hey Guys
Apparently several of you maniacs out there felt that the existing Dobinsons IMS shocks to suit a 6" lift on an 80 Series weren't long enough, so Dobinsons went ahead and built the longest IMS shocks they make to date. Now there are 0-3", 4-5", 6", and these long bois for front and...
Only if a washer isn't used on the back and front of the bushing stack. If a washer is curved in too far, it's trashed, probably from a super worn out shock. Your 2nd last photo looks like it has thread damage (the shiny part), so something was bouncing around too much it looks like.
Most people I talk to these days running 35's have a 3" lift, but technically you can do it with 2". Adding lift doesn't specifically change any amount of room under the fenders for the tires to fit, as the range of motion from the control arms remains the same, unless you change those out...
This is correct below the mount. Above the mount is a regular bushing, washer, then nut. Only 1 locating washer is used, on the underside of the mount. Those shocks come with 2 sizes as some models Toyota's that those shocks go on use a different sized hole.
The washer left over with the lip...
That's great to hear. Those J springs work great for heavy dudes, but not in your case!!
It's amazing how much the vehicle can transform with the right parts on there. Bummer about all the breakages, but luckily that's all in the past now!!
I have my site broken down much more simply. From this page, you can look at just springs, just shocks, just kits, or whatever item you're after. The search box works well too, I just updated that plugin so it does a much quicker job of finding a closer answer to the search query.
Each...
You can measure from the center of the hub up to the edge of the fender flare, and that will give us an idea of what lift height you've got. OE was normally around 20" front and 21" rear
You may need the 3" flexi coils to get 4" of lift with a much lighter engine in there. Then 4" in the back so it would level out. I helped a guy a few years back with a similar type setup but I don't remember his name now.
When OME switched to the Nitro Sport, they were considerably firmer and not as "comfortable" as the classic Nitrochargers. They'll work with your lift, but they won't feel the same as before. The internals of the shock changed, not just the branding.
Dobinsons, Ironman and ARB are all very similar in design, weight, features, and looks. They're good options for a full frontal bumper.
You could look at one of the other options if you need more front end clearance, but being in Alaska, the full frontal bumper would be the best bet. It may...
I use a ratchet strap to set the truck to center (pulling the body of the truck over to center it on the axle) and then measure the length of the distance between the mounting points and install it. You can start at 5/8", but you'll still probably have to verify it as you go.
