    Water storage on your 80

I totally agree that pushing a button in easier. My point was that just using a spout was simpler. An electric pump vs. gravity. Pretty sure that gravity isn't going to fail. I do like the pump solution though.

    Water storage on your 80

It really can get simpler. I have an older Rubbermaid 3 gallon water container that I put by my kitchen area while camping. Simpler, rectangular (not round), and very impact resistance. JMHO. I just refill it from my other containers when it gets low.

    Water storage on your 80

The previous owner installed a water-bladder type storage in the rear behind the passenger side rear panel. I find it super handy and love it. Just guessing, but I would say it holds 6 gallons, but really have never measured it. Never had a problem with water quality, sloshing, etc. YMMV.

Charging issues not the battery or alternator?

It probably is the alternator. If it were me, I'd swap in the battery from a different rig and see if it continues to show low voltage. Easy and free diagnostic, but then again, I have lots of rigs to steal from. If still low, replace or repair your alternator.

What to do while instrument cluster is out?

I believe there is a temp gauge mod that makes the gauge actually useful. I'd look into doing that while you got it out.

80 Series charging travel trailer AGM batteries

Been using AGM Optimas, Sears Diehard Gold, X2 Power in various cruisers for over 30 years. Never an issue keeping them charged or dying prematurely. Used with a wide variety of alternators too from stock, to Leece Neville, Delco, and Sequoia. No mods to the alternators.

    Haha, whose the owner?

This was a no harm, no foul situation and I'm sure he learned some valuable lessons. However, going out alone is never a good idea.

    Best Alternator

I would rather take my old alternator to a local auto electric shop and have them rebuild it than buy a reman unit. But that's just me.

Extending Range to 500 miles. Best Options?

For the few times you'll need it, I'd go with cans. But I'm cheap / practical type guy. I've got some Wavian cans and some old Nato cans. You can pick them up for about $50 each for the new Wavian, which makes carrying 20 gallons of extra fuel only $200 (plus nozzle cost). And since you're...

    New clutch not disengaging

No experience with manual tranny in an 80. Toyota, in their infinite wisdom, didn't off that to us Americans. However, I do know that this is a common symptom on the 60 when the disc is put in backwards.

Considering an 80 Series over my GX470

Is this a dedicated trail rig or just the occasional run in the daily driver? If it is the driver, definitely keep the 470. However, if you're looking for a dedicated trail rig, the 80 will be superior (off the pavement).

    Yet another noobie oil question...

As far as planning a rebuild, don't do it if it only because of the miles. These engines can run for a long, long time. If the thing runs good, just keep doing standard maintenance.

    Siphoning gas

Resurrecting an old thread here. The past few years, we've had several power outages here that have lasted for several days. With the arrival of a new baby, I've taken the plunge and purchased a generator for the home. My 80 doesn't get driven much (if at all) in the winter and it has a 38...

    Is my R12 A/C retrofited to r134a ?

I did exactly what Bilt4Me said. I flushed out the entire system using an A/C flush, replaced the dryer and replaced all the O-rings. I pulled the evap out to replace the expansion valve, flush it out, and get rid of 20 years of debris clogging up the fins. The O-ring kit I got had a replacement...

Best Tire and Lift Size Combo

I agree with Heckraiser that for your use, a 31 inch category tire would serve you better, unless you are going to re-gear it. It will be much more enjoyable to drive. And it will take you camping anywhere you want too. JMHO.

    80 Series Sliders Suggestions

Here's a shot of the slider. Like I said, they work great. However, like others have said, the ones they have work great too. So there are lots of good options out there.

    80 Series Sliders Suggestions

I'll try and snap a shot or two today. They angle up so they tuck in tighter than ones that are flat. My experience is that angled ones make better sliders but flat one make better steps.

    80 Series Sliders Suggestions

You don't really mention if you intend to go wheeling or not. I have OPOR purchased from Metal Tech on both my 80s and I know others that use them too. These things are very strong and work well to protect the rig from damage. They really can take a licking and come out unscathed. If you are...

Gutter clamp roof rack vs $$$ options

Like I said, everything has its advantages and disadvantages. For me, my tailgate is just too darn useful to ever give up. It's a table, a work surface, a seat, and a place to stand when dealing with items on the roof. I'll take the tailgate over the barn doors any day.

Gutter clamp roof rack vs $$$ options

I carried a 33" spare on the roof of my FJ60s for years (Confer roof rack). Like everything, there are advantages / disadvantages. For me, it was much easier to live with than a swing out rear bumper carrier like I have on my 80. How often do you actually use the spare? The swing out is a pain...
