Yeah, I'd take the paint and stereo off the "short list" for now, change the ATF - Diff/TC fluid - PSF - fan clutch oil. Sounds like you are a better wrench than me, and I found that stuff to be cake. Makes you feel better, too, and the truck always seems happier, whether it makes any...
I did like NLX and put it on the inside of the skin and replaced the vapor barrier. Supposed to have some thermal insulation value as well. Gives the doors a more solid thunk when they shut. Get some Windex and clean off the inside of the sheet metal first.
A. There is a white locking tab that holds the wires in place. You gently pry/slide it back and it releases the connectors and they slide right out. Don't pull them out with pliers.
B. Rick has directions in .jpg, I bet he might send them to you if you ask extra nice.
Just switched from RedLine D4 ATF to the PSF and now it groans like the old Caprice I had. No knock on RedLine, got it everywhere else, just going back to the ATF. The PSF seemed a lot less viscous than the ATF.
Sorry that I tried to start a new identical thread, I guess I missed this one.
I'm pretty happy with it. Driving is a little more pleasant with what seem like better power and a smoother engine. MPG is up about 10% based upon my numbers and the ScanGauge. I don't have a lot of data, but the...
Booming bass?
Hadn't heard it described in an 80, but a common issue in the early 100's (like my 2001) was a "booming bass" where the amp would crank out max bass no matter how you set the levels. Couldn't listen to anything and enjoy it with the sound hammering away at you. It required...
I have had mine in for several days, and I was hoping others could give their impressions. Don’t know why this didn’t come up in the other mileage / power improvement threads. (Although using magnets and atomized cat urine to achieve 35mpg is tempting.)
Installation was a snap and the truck...
That is all you will get out through the drain plug.
Find the thread that describes the transmission fluid exchange. It is pretty easy. Check your level first, then set it up to drain your outflow into a gallon container, when it is full, put four qts back in, repeat several times.
I am getting my rear main seal fixed as part of the purchase agreement. It seems like that would make the PHH more accessible. I'm wondering if it makes sense to offer him $50 to replace it during that other work.
I could also pay a Toyota shop to do it during a coolant flush, it'd...
I was considering that, I had polyurethane sway bar bushings on another car and the squeaking if I didn't keep them greased annoyed me. I think Slee's are polyester, right? How are they? Change the ride at all?
Before I get into a situation where I am wasting Dan’s time, I was hoping for some advice from the community. I have baselined the big girl’s fluids, and I’d like to do the same to most of the suspension. I plan on replacing the springs/shocks/steering damper. I’m thinking that the bushings...
RavenTai's method is great, even for a 0.05:banana: like me, no need to put it off. Take it slow, turn from one side to the other, then refill. Otherwise air gets sucked in. I put 4qts D4 ATF through it for good measure. CDOC on eBay, located in VA, can get you Redline stuff fast. I'm in NC...
Do you just dump them into the tire during mounting? Then there is no need to balance with weights? Will most tire shops put them in for you? Obviously I don't know much about these things, but I've heard they work well. Thanks.
Edit: Great minds.....
My pedal had a very stiff, choppy feel to it, really tough to smoothly modulate. I called Dan about the throttle cable, and he guided me to the accelerator cable, which I replaced, and now it is perfect. Not sure if this is the same as what you are talking about.
I tried that Peel & Seal / FatMat; the reason that it is so cheap: it is asphalt based roofing material. So it stinks like asphalt, which most people do not enjoy for extended periods. It also seems to loose adhesion in very cold and very hot weather. My experience with DynaMat (I have...
