What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Pulled the 4 speed out of my cruiser yesterday. The plan had been to install the h55 today, but found I had a small rear main leak and decided to not be dumb and to wait until next weekend and fix it and then install the h55. Also disconcerted that I will have to modify the transmission tunnel...

Just curious, What is your MPG on you're FJ40?

69 FJ40 '2FE" getting 16.5 or so... pulling a trailer over Donner summit. I have not yet checked for normal driving. 35s stock gearing everywhere.

    3F-E or 2F advice

I put a 2FE into my FJ40 last year. I've had it running for about a year and a half now, and I will say it's an incredible engine. Tons of low end power, great drivability. More useable power then the 350 it replaced. It has a great flat torque curve... it just keeps pulling. I couldn't be...

    fj55?

There is a whole FJ55 section! They are the unloved bastards of the cruiser world. To me, that makes them likeable. They look unique. They have the same bulletproof drivetrain of the 40s. I love them.

6 Month update. Holy crap this motor is awesome. It's running great. Been working out bugs here and there, but nothing massive. A short trip out to the Yuba Gold fields in April was eventful. Clutch was slipping (adjustment) and had a Vacuum line pop off. Fixed that and it ran great. No...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

For the first time in the 18, almost 19 years I've owned my FJ40, the speedometer works! I have had the Dakota Digital unit installed for a while, but had not got the speedometer working yet. Finally got the fuel gauge and speedometer working properly. So nice to have reliable gauges!

    3FE Conversion

Interestingly enough, I did not hook up the VSS wire at all, and have not had a CEL yet, been a few months of driving it once a week or so to work and a few trips. The 3FE in a 40 is fantastic. It just runs SO GOOD. Way smoother, nicer, and even a little quicker then my 350 was. My first...

Why does everyone keep the hardtop on

My favorite way to drive mine is no doors, top on. I still get the open feeling, but I have more storage room to pile up camping stuff, I have shade, it looks better, and my dog in the back is safer. I like topless, but it's a pain to take the top on and off and I just like it on a little...

Yeah, I am still learning a lot. This has not been an easy learning curve for me, but I'm getting there. Starting to think how I need to to trouble shoot the OBD1 EFI. I'ts not so simple as air/fuel/spark with a 3FE. lol Hopefully I find a good hood here soon, or can at least make mine...

Project Wrong Way Idiot (me) Doing the FJ40 Rear Disc Swap

For all the trouble you've had with it, it will still be worth it. My FJ40 almost got rear ended by my buddies camaro a few years ago because my 4 wheel disks on 35s can outstop his new car. Also being able to stop straight and not change lanes when hitting the brakes is pretty awesome.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

That was Saturday. Yesterday I drove it to my parent's house.. 16 miles total or so. THen drove it to work this morning. 20 miles around trip. I plan to daily it to work for the next few weeks... get the shakedown done so I can actually take it on a trip this summer! Been a LONG and...

A combanation of things. The ignitor bracket wasn't tight... the ignitor wasn't grounding well. THen I bumped the distributor and it was loose, and knocked it out of timing. Even once I got it running agian, it was running weird.. I suspect the coolant sensor was the issue there. It still had no...

    Free Replacement Decals From Warn

Nice. My 8274 is soaking in a bucket of purple power right now. I haven't 100% decided if I'm going to blast and paint it, or just clean it up and reassemble it, but either way, new decals will look awesome. Plus.. mine says JEEP! lol

And... now I'm back to frustrated. I pulled the cruiser out of the shop a few days ago. Removed the radiator outside so I didn't make a huge mess with the coolant in the shop. It started right up, totally running normal. It sat out there for a few hours while I cleaned and worked on a...

    Saginaw PS hose issues.

I got a new hose made to replace my 15 year old one that was leaky, and the new one instead of having the 11/16-18 inverted flare, just has 6-an nut... and a 11/16-18 adapter. Problem is, that the adapter raises the whole thing up 1/2 and inch or more, causing it to hit the radiator. I can...

I can't believe it was something that simple and dumb for the last few weeks. Oh well. I have sorted out a lot of other issues that needed to be dealt at some point with trying to hunt down this issue. I am hoping to make it to my club meeting in two weeks... short time to get a lot done...
