    Builds Project 2027: 1977 FJ40 Rebuild

Fan clutch looks like the easiest and least expensive option to swap out and test. Yes it should get much harder to turn when hot. As for lack of high jackstands, Is there a Prius you could pull the front wheels up on the hood to get the height?

Does anyone drive with the windshield down?

Somehow I feel that your windshield would have been history in that case if it was up too.

Does anyone drive with the windshield down?

Did several searches including; FJ40 drive with windshield down IH8MUD. Images from that show about one in twenty pics of 40's with the windshield down. I drive my VW Thing with the windshield down when running around up to about 45 mph. I can fold it up or down in 5 seconds at a stoplight...

What are you doing for side mirrors? Looked back at photos and couldn't see the drivers side well enough to see if there is one there.

    40 series 5 speed.

I will have an H55F in my 40. My FJ62 would be no fun without it. The 40 will drive the highway at 80mph+ just like the 62 and those who say that is crazy are weenies.

I'm so glad that your son (and you) is there rather than in the metroplex. What a place to grow up.

    A thread about a white bread, stock 1976 FJ40.

Good call on the lift. I don't think it takes away from the stock look at all.

    Just inherited '82 FJ40

Don't freak out at that. Lots of us expected it. Start looking through build threads on this forum to get an idea on what it takes to fix these up. You can pay certain known good restoration companies, Cruiser Corps in OKC comes to mind, to do it for you. With it's history you really need to...

    Builds Project 2027: 1977 FJ40 Rebuild

My hard top needs work but is probably worth fixing. I believe my truck is a FST and the original owner, or his friend the 2nd, acquired the HT.

When your hard top goes on would you let me buy your soft top and doors? I am the opposite and will have the hard top off of the truck most of the time. It's cooler in Tomball you know.

Yes and he is a debonair devil. Kathy is a lucky woman that he is so devoted to her as the lasses on his travels have tried and tried.

Ha! Old man. I got mine 2 days ago via digital download! Being born in 1962 I'm just young enough to beat you old timer's to the punch but generally respectful enough not to say so. Today my inhibitions are moderated by a healthy dish of Pollo Picante that my wife made which is always...

FJ40 Head Light Upgrade - LED Bulbs

Electrical Engineer Wayne Tangen of the 3FE list build a dozen or so harnesses for members more than 15 years ago. We also had a group buy from Susquehanna Motor Sports for Hella Lamps and H1 and H4 bulbs. Wayne's harness is very involved and works great. With 80 W low and 100 W high I put...

FJ40 Head Light Upgrade - LED Bulbs

I'm kinda liking the stock Phillips. I'm a Hella H1 H4 guy on my 62 but here I can see farther in your pictures with the Stock it seems

CB am I missing other threads where you go adventuring in your other Cruisers? I originally found this thread as I have a 77 and started following. I would feel stupid if you had other long threads of wrenching and adventure with your white 40 or your Troopy that I'm missing out on.

    1977 BJ40 Build Thread

Whoa partner! Nice rig but slow down a bit on the parts purchases and look around a bit on MUD. 1st thing is to get the Factory Service Manual which can be download on MUD I'm sure. Then, parts, even for non-US trucks are available from known sources here on MUD. These vendors will also be a...

    2 fuel tanks or one?

I saw that tank that goes under both seats and the console area. How do you like it? Does it interfere with anything else you have going like console or roll cage? Do you feel like Slim Pickings riding the bomb?

    40 series 5 speed.

A top cover for existing H55F is fantastic. Kudos to the OP. I thought it was a whole setup. This makes it much easier to accomplish. Im probably in. Id buy a new H55F and purchase this cover even if it's pretty pricey if it saves a bunch of positioning modifications, time and expense. As...

    40 series 5 speed.

I'd like to see a better first post by the OP with an explanation of exactly what is going on here. I have a H55F in my FJ62 and would never have one without that setup. I have a 77' FJ40 US model that I would kill to have a 5 speed in. I have found no threads on MUD for my vintage with an...
