Wowsers I’ve been out of it for a while, sorry I haven’t kept up with the build! Rig is looking good though, love the wheels and tyres.
Sorry my pump rebuild didn’t work, I think it was a cheap Chinese seal kit. If you still have the pump I’d be happy to tear it back down and have another look...
Thanks for looking after the old rust bucket so well. The last of what you gave me for her bought me a new little friend called Holly, she’s 4wd, twin locked, very fuel efficient, has similar paint codes and goes everywhere. She’s well taken care of by her big sister.
Damn I feel slow and lazy. Good work mate.
on the electrical side, I only found a few things, a worn ignition switch and a cut rear indicator wire. I repaired both of those, I would check the rear harness though for signs of them using scotch locks as it may have had a tow hitch in the past...
Im always poking around. I’m cruiserless now, just have my Hilux. A friend just bought a hdj80 which is just asking for my attention so I’ll satiate my needs with that cruiser for a while.😂
It’s been a tough decision, I’ve been on the fence for a few months. I thought about paying someone to finish it but that defeats the purpose of having it in the first place, I do Cruiser work to relax.
Sad to say but this little piggy is up for sale. My arm and hand aren’t improving much, and I’ve haven’t done anything in 6 months. Planning on selling this and my Hilux and buying a hdj100.
Yeah The fit up on this part has to be nice and neat so the outer panel wraps around it correctly so it can be sealed. The piece that came out was far too mangled to be able to replicate it, no idea how a professional would do this.🤷♂️
I had a 2 steps forward 1 step back kind of afternoon. The piece I made didn’t fit as well as I’d hoped so it got cut up, and re cut up, and re cut up. And now it fits.
Gave up with waiting for my hand to improve so I’m slowly getting back into it. Chronic pain sucks.
I’ve spent the last week or so doing low impact jobs tidying up the garage and my parts stash.
Today I had a crack at building more panels. Made this piece which is part of the wheel well and...
The doc did a neat job, I’ve got a tidy line of stitches on my hand and my elbow and I’ve already got good movement and minimal pain. They still reckon around a 3 month recovery period.
And this project is on pause for a while now.
Had surgery on Wednesday for carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome.
Unless I duct tape the mig gun to my hand.
I started on the rear quarter today. Got a patch panel made up for the outer skin, I haven’t welded it in as there is a lot going on behind there that needs working on first.
Once I started it got a whole lot less daunting.
I got the welder locally from Global welding supplies. My new drive roll and liner suited to 0.6 wire came in today as well but it has been running really well.
And I’m done for the day, I can’t be bothered grinding again this arvo. The A pillar is a really sucky design, no wonder it rusts. Blending the outer panel into the inner is going to be fun. I also need to get my local sheet metal place to bend up a new gutter piece to run down the pillar...
My girlfriend is a keeper, she brought down butter chicken for me!
This mornings work consisted of painting Hilux parts, yard work and getting this bit back on.
