Other uses for the African Outback roof rack tracks

Not sure if you've been in a 100 series with an AO rack mounted on it. There's a very noticable amount of wind noise added by it especially at highway speeds. That HAS to have at least a small amount of effect on gas mileage. This is my daily driver and goes 50 miles round trip to work 5 days...

Replace 03+ Nav center cluster with non-Nav cluster?

If the dealer had been much further away, I would have done that. Let's all hope there isn't a next time for any of us :).

Replace 03+ Nav center cluster with non-Nav cluster?

Not just out, but possibly in a really inconvenient mode. My Nav died last summer. When it happened, the A/C decided it would go into automatic max cold mode. I was able to drive it to the dealer, but man was I frozen by the time I got there. If it goes out again outside of warranty, I...

Of course not, but since it is my daily commuter, a mile or 2 per gallon adds up especially with gas prices the way they are these days...

'07 100 series rough spot at 1,200-1,400 rpm

And one truck on the board had the entire truck replaced :D. In my case, the air bag system warning lights were screwed up after the dealer had a 3rd party install a GuidePoint aftermarket vehicle recovery system. After a few attempts and more than a little bit of insistance, they ended up...

Other uses for the African Outback roof rack tracks

FWIW, it didn't sound prickish to me. Now how do I get those free locks :D. No problem, glad people have found the info useful. Just wish someone else had done it so I could be the one saving $$$ and getting free locks :D. [Edited to remove incorrect comments about AO rack mounting...

Other uses for the African Outback roof rack tracks

Not sure why you edited your post to take out the link to on online source for the parts. I knew full well that the parts could be had for less $$$ online, but it would have been tough to figure out exactly which Landing Pads were needed without seeing them first :D. To me, it was well worth...

Other uses for the African Outback roof rack tracks

Thanks for the feedback on this. I definitely put some silicone on the bolts going into the roof, so I should have no worries. Yeah, they're a nearly perfect fit and can pretty easily be positioned anywhere along the track. The only thing is that since the spacing between the tracks isn't...

I haven't done anything yet, but I share your concern. I'm hoping that it's open enough in there that highway driving will clear out any water.

Other uses for the African Outback roof rack tracks

It cost $207 at REI for the Landing Pads, Control Towers, and a pair of 58" bars. You could certainly get the parts a bit cheaper online, though shipping might be a killer on the bars. I felt though that since I was opening boxes to check sizing it wouldn't be fair to then go purchase the...

Other uses for the African Outback roof rack tracks

I got an African Outback roof rack from Slee a month or so ago. It's definitely an awesome rack, but I definitely won't be keeping it mounted all the time because it decreases gas mileage, adds extra noise (especially with the sunroof open), etc. There are times when having a rack is useful...

Real Time AO Rack Install Question

Hopefully I'm not diverting the thread too far with this, but I'm considering other possible uses for the AO tracks that remain when the rack itself isn't installed. One obvious use that comes to mind is to find a way to mount a pair of Thule or Yakima crossbars for times when you need to carry...

Real Time AO Rack Install Question

IIRC, one of the holes in 1 rail was off a bit, but I did exactly what Slee suggested - put all the bolts in very loose before tightening anything up and it worked out fine. Regarding the rubber strip - I was wondering what that was for, but I only received 1 strip that was in the front of my...

2006 LX Navigation System / Climate Control Problems

I just got the LX back a short while ago. They replaced the nav/multifunction gizmo and all seems well so far. No warranty hassles / no charge (other than for the 20k service). They didn't really have an explanation for what went wrong, but I'm not sure I really would expect them to have one...

2006 LX Navigation System / Climate Control Problems

 Got a call (well, actually a voice mail) from the "service advisor" this afternoon. She said my LX wouldn't be ready today because despite ordering a new Nav unit, they received a ....... radio. A radio??? WTF? Unless I'm mistaken, LX's in the US have a 1 piece unit which...

2006 LX Navigation System / Climate Control Problems

Is it only a problem with the navigation assist volume - the radio works fine? Is he unable to find the menu option to adjust the volume or is it not loud enough even at the max setting? If the radio works fine, then no idea. If the radio is also not loud enough, then the amp and/or speakers...

2006 LX Navigation System / Climate Control Problems

The dealer called a few minutes ago. After running some diagnostics, they determined that the nav unit needs to be replaced. To accomodate me for my trip, they are having the replacement overnighted depending on when in the day it arrives tomorrow, I should have my LX back tomorrow or Thursday...

    ARB vs. Slee rear bumper

Not sure I care for the look of the spare off to the side, but I would think it would affect visibility out the rear a bit less (at the expense of blocking some lights).
