Help - pretty sure my 100 series is about to be totaled

All good advice. I finally got ahold of the 20 something kid doing the claim work and let him know that we have been driving this vehicle almost as long as he's been alive and that I'm intimately familiar with its actual value. I also let him know that I was pretty much insulted that they...

Help - pretty sure my 100 series is about to be totaled

So, the verbal offer from Progressive arrived a few moments ago. Still waiting for the hardcopy of the report to be e-mailed to us. They are offering $7261.34 with a salvage value of $2900. In looking at 1998-2001 LC's on Autotrader.com and Cars.com. There is only 1 LC being offered for...

Help - pretty sure my 100 series is about to be totaled

Alpine Access, I work for the USAF and my insurance is USAA. The other vehicle is insured by Progressive. Also, what part of the repair above did you help with? VFib, yours does indeed look a lot like mine. The end result looks perfect. No doubt I'll keep it, but what a PITA to deal...

Help - pretty sure my 100 series is about to be totaled

Agree on all points. The plates at the end of the frame horns are folded slightly, but I can straighten those out easily enough to put a Slee bumper on it. I already have a 4BD1T diesel with compounds powering my 1993 LC, so I wasn't quite ready to start this new project. I figured her 100...

Help - pretty sure my 100 series is about to be totaled

I chatted with my company tonight (USAA) and got some good info from someone who seemed very knowledgeable of the process. We only carried liability on this vehicle, so there are fewer options that they can provide for us since we didn't have comp. They offered to review the offer from...

Help - pretty sure my 100 series is about to be totaled

O.K. Here is the deal. Wife was #3 in line pulling away from a green light the other day and a Tesla ran a red light and clipped her front end. Other driver was clearly at fault, cited by LEO and there were a number of witnesses. Our 1999 LC has 292,000 miles and is in excellent mechanical...

Uh-oh! Ominous knocking sound from front end - advice?

I've had a similar, very intermittent, tapping as well. Sounds like a baby woodpecker is tapping away somewhere in the engine bay. Only does it when I have no chance of jumping out and popping the hood see what/where it is coming from. I only notice it when I'm driving very slow or coming to...

    Moab suggestions

What's the deal with Kane Creek? I ran it in a stock rental jeep that was open/open a few years back. Sounds like it's gotten a little tougher since I last ran it. As for trails, pick up a copy of the Charles A. Wells, 2008 edition. ( It's the spiral bound version of the book and I think...

    Longer rear hatch struts?

Has anyone found a good solution for longer rear hatch struts. I put some McMaster Carr struts on my 80 and really like the slightly higher tail gate when open. It looks like there is more room as well on the 100 before the wind deflector hits the roof. The 80 solution requires some cutting...

Soft first brake pedal application issue

99 LC with 173K on it. I've owned it for a long time and lately it seems like the brake pedal is a little soft and long on the first stroke. I do regular brake fluid flushings and I did another one today. For the first time, I used the method of bleeding where you use a piece of lumber to...

    80 series axles under a 100 series?

Yes, you can, but I read a lot threads about 100 series steering racks dropping like flies with the larger rubber and of course they don't flex like a solid axle. I like the 80 series axles, 100 series engine and cabin size of the 100 series. Just seeing if anyone has tried it. Might have...

    80 series axles under a 100 series?

Has anybody attempted a resonable solid axle conversion to a 100 series using 80 series axles? I know Slee's Blueberry was an example, but I'm only interested in 35's at some point in the future. I currently have both vehicles and the track dimensions are similar, but the one issue that...

Musty Smell in A/C and cabin; any banana fixes?

My experience using their directions was also marginal at best... Agreed, the BG stuff won't get rid of major crap, and there wasn't that much, but it was enough to justify getting out the shop vac. Also, on the 100, I pulled the air filter window immediately after adding the foam and only...

Musty Smell in A/C and cabin; any banana fixes?

After using this product on both my 80 and 100 series, I think it is a waste of money. After both "treatments" I still had to access the condenser area via the resistor pack in the 80 or the air filter window in the 100 and spray the condensor down liberally with a 1 gallon garden sprayer full...

Steering Rack leak - Rubber bushes changed to aluminum

Rubber vs. Poly. Rubber squishes and compresses easily. Poly not so much. If the rack moves, so do your tires. I want the rack to stay firmly in place so it's poly for me. There is absolutely no reason for me to ever put the rubber bushing back on. Just my .02. Adam

    How high, how far....

This is the only thing I've been allowed to drive while in country. She could have used a couple hundred more hp. Top speed was about 5 mph, but the four hoof steering, built in traction control and sleek lines were first rate. She does need some emissions equipment installed. It was...

    How high, how far....

I just took three 100 series cruisers on a long trek here in Kyrgyzstan. Each had around 200K and I guarantee that they do not get the maintenace our rigs get back in the states. Plus the roads are terrible over here. I was impressed by how tight each of them was and mine was even a 5 speed...
