On the pillow block bearings, I did not see a way to remove them to replace them. Is there a way to do that? (I ended up really boning it up with Golden Boy's PTO getting the wrong shaft--probably I got a 60 shaft.)
My big question is assuming you change the sector shaft for new, where is most of the wear? Is it on the rack? I've just splashed out on a new (expensive)105 box for my petrol 80 here after trying to get several 80 boxes to perform better.
Hi all,
I just collected Mister Blue, a 2003 105, to daily for a week or two before it goes back in. I parked the truck right after inspection and registration for fear of a timing belt failure. This poor old truck has been out in the UAE sun for a long time and all the rubber has gone bad...
Ah. A cultural misunderstanding.

One of the things I love about this hobby is that it brings me into contact with people I probably would not otherwise have met. This has been very evident here in the Middle East. I lived in Dubai for...
Thank you so much for that detailed reply. There's a lot to think about and respond to. I was watching it as I was driving a few minutes ago and it seems to be quite unpredictable as to whether it goes up to about quarter of the full range or at zero. Pretty much randomly. That would argue for...
I have just acquired a Middle East diesel 105 with 450k km on the clock. Drove it for the first time last evening. Oil pressure struggles to reach 1/4 but most of the time just hovers over the last line, as in close to zero. This was a government truck so I do know know how good the...
On my last couple of boxes I tried using this after I had de-rusted with either a local product or evapo-rust:
It dries quickly and leaves a somewhat uneven mottled black coating behind. I have no idea whether it will be durable, but I did not want to put back a freshly de-rusted soft steel...
I had a reaction when I saw you had gotten the heater box from AUS. I know from hard experience that there are significant differences between RHD and LHD heater boxes. Had to go back up to your first post to see that your truck is actually RHD.
Have you considered painting or treating the...
Thanks for the quick reply, Dusten. The bad link is green wire in the photo above coming off the battery on the left hand side if you are sitting in the driver's seat in a LHD truck. I say it this way because my truck is a RHD to LHD conversion.
The links on the other battery, all four of...
Hi ToyotaMatt,
Sign me up for a set of your fuseable links for my HDJ81V-RNPGW, Just found a blown one on the main battery
Does anyone happen to know what the gauge of this wire is for a temporary fix?
Thanks to you both, MG and CT.
The Holy Truck is a Middle East 80 with a 1FZ (carbureted) and a manual transmission.
I'm starting to think (hope) that they just failed to update the part number for my particular truck. I will have a close look at the old and new when it comes in on Tuesday...
Hi all,
I've been working on a 1FZ truck I call the 'Holy Truck' for the past 6 months or so and I ran into a real snag--finding a new fuel level float sensor / sender. New OEM ones seem unobtainable and I have not found a used on on the local market here in Dubai.
ToyoDIY says the following...
The truck seems to be starting every time now. I do notice just a fraction of a second delay between turning the key and the starter engaging. Is that the normal behavior?
I kind of peered down to that ground lead to the engine block on the drivers' side and then shied away... it is dark and really hard to get to.
You are right. I need to take some systematic voltage measurements and really understand that diagram much better.
More strangeness....
My parts guy was able to source a new relay. I put it in and it did not even buzz. Just nothing. I also tried cleaning the connector on the pigtail coming off the relay.
Put the old one back in and it was back to sort of intermittent but started usually on a few tries...
