Yeah, that’s part of why I bought the metal cans to begin with: I love the aesthetic of the old style stuff. But practicality wins over aesthetics every time when you’re talking about hard use in an outdoor environment.

+1. I had two wavian cans and they rusted like crazy within about six months. I trashed them and went with the Scepter plastic cans. No issues in almost a year and a half.
Right after I posted this, my mattress sprang a “mystery leak.” It would pump up fine, but by morning, I was literally laying on the wood top of my bunk. I’m sorting it out with Thermarest and they’re going to take a look at, but won’t be able to until early 2024 because they’re relocating...
I don’t think they’re rusting on the inside, but as you can see from one of the photos, it’s to the point that the rust has exposed multiple layers of metal. So it’s inevitable that it will rust through.

I did the same, but my drawers only go back far enough that I can still put the second row back in if I need to. The part that makes up the "foot" of the bed is a separate box/trunk that attaches to the drawer unit for sleeping, but if the second row is in, can be moved on top of the drawers or...
