    Builds FlatRok40 build

Nice looking rig. One of my biggest debates so far is whether I am going to paint or rattle can my 40. I just know it's gonna get scratched and dented and have "Nevada Pinstriping" (from all the sagebrush, trees and rocks) and want to be able to touch it up easily. What was your deciding factor?

    what say you? crawl ratio

There is a local guy I know who is running a SM420, toybox, LC case. I hear through the grpevine he is looking to go auto. I'll keep you posted if he wants to sell his setup.

Most expensive mistake you have made when building / modifying a rig?

Building up a bone stock 3 speed 1f 40 and when I realized the drivetrain was weak, tried to build a mild crawler with an sm420, SOA, PS, gears, lockers etc. and when near completion didn't like it so I started over and am still trying to finish the 1 tons, tbi v8, 700r4, d300. I guess I would...

    throttle linkage for TBI

Figured it out today.......got a Mr. Gasket throttle cable and braided line kit after searching a few local auto parts stores. I was able to retain the stock pedal and the stock bracketry on the TBI. Total cost $30

    throttle linkage for TBI

Not super hardcore but figured more guys over here have done swaps. Plus the cruiser is medium core :) with tons, 700r4 and on 40's I threw a SBC TBI 350 in the 40 and need ideas (pictures would help most) on throttle linkages. I read that Downey had one but they are out of biz and I read a...

How much cosmetic surgery are you going to need to do to the floorpan to get the body to fit?

Just caught up on your thread and noticed you were having difficulty finding the 4 turn Gm box. If you are hunting in junkyards you gotta hunt for an old boat GM car. If you order one from the local crap parts store, just tell them you want one for a 68 impala. They will charge a core, just...

Yes, but not very large holes......probably nothing more than a quarter to half inch for me. Maybe fill a little then let it cool and then finish if it's bigger. I did the spot welds when I changed out my corners using the copper trick, just c-clamped the copper so i didn't have to hold it...

I use the flat copper for sheetmetal work and don't ever get it hot enough to melt the copper, the added benefit is you can shape it for corners, etc. If you are welding hot enough to melt copper on sheetmetal work you have to expect that you are warping the metal

I just use a small piece of copper pipe hammered flat......cheap, easy to find and works pretty good

Hard to see in the pics, but close to 2" of a difference and also turned my pinion angle up a couple degrees which was nice since doing a C&T on a d60 is a PITA. Still had to add 6 or 8 degree shims (can't remember which) to get the pinion angle above 10. That shackle angle a little less than it...

I'll try to answer the questions in order but my answers may not help :meh: My frame to ground with aired up 40" tires is 24". The sideview pic makes it look taller cause I cut 2" off the rocker. I run a dana 60 in the front now so pics of the setup may not help but here is an old pic with...

Ummmm...no I can't get it out of the garage with air in the tires :hhmm:  I'm prepping to tell the wife that the 1200sqft garage just isn't big enough anymore and I need a shop :) Believe it or not, the stance is the same as stock shackles with springover. I don't think I can actually...

I think my wheelbase is around 101 with front axle 4-6" foward and rear axle 6" back using 55 rear springs and the ruffstuff perches. My driveshaft length with a 700r4 and d300 is around 21" with my v8 pushed as far foward as I can. (about 2" off the radiator) I may push my axle back a little...

    Notched 60 front axles

I ran the same perch after Ruffstuff talked me into it. They are tough as nails and makes it nice that you don't have to do weird bends on the ubolt or anything

I sat and penciled out the costs and they are about even so I went with the tons even after doing the C&T, crossover hi steer, and mini outer swap, etc. on my 40 axles. I ended up cutting down a chevy D60 4.5" to match my front spring hangers that I had already done (so I didn't have to...

Where do I start......been building a cruiser going on 2 years now and was lookin for some motivation. After a major knee operation put me down for 4 months I've been looking forlornly at the cruiser in the garage thinking "I have to get back on this project". So I hop on here and start...

Dana 300 to stock speedo adapter?

x2 on Nevada Speedometer but make sure you know which type of speedo cable you have. Apparently there's one with a short pigtail and one that goes straight into the speedo. It's the first thing they ask......
