Throwing in two cents late here but I agree with Andy for sure. Put the locker in the back! I have done some pretty tough stuff on just 35's without breaking a birfield and the rear SF was a stocker that have now been upgraded to Poly's.
I share the same college broke budget deal but my...
Hey dudes,
I know I am going to have to reintroduce myself, I haven't been on 'Mud much lately.
40 is looking great man, keep up that sheet metal work!

Those look excellent and should suit you well if you carry some weight. If you travel a lot with no load it will be nice and firm, but you could easily remove a leaf.

Hey Mark,
Thanks again for steering me correctly in my old thread. The 3/4 tons are great!
Here are some old pics I took of them back in the day. They are working very well and I have no regrets about the conversion.
With that being said, I think, like Mark said I will be adding a leaf...
I have the 3/4 ton leaves under my fj60 and they are great. The 1/2 tons would be worthless on a wagon, the 3/4 tons have 4 leaves plus a heavier duty overload spring.

Why is the output shaft on the toybox so course? Are you using a fj40 t-case or something? The transfercase side of your toybox looks a lot different than mine.

Have you read this write that was done years ago? It is 40 specific but involves a 4 speed so it may be helpful.

Hey that's my picture! You can see the 3 screws and the snap ring in the picture above. I'll go through some pictures and see if I can find the bearing number.

It is pretty long. I did what Tim and Fred did and It works great. Before I drilled another hole the hi-N-lo throw was all of the factory hole and rubbed on the edges. Now the knob moves maybe 2.5-3" in either direction from neutral.

Call Marlin and ask him for the fixture to clearance the split case for the toybox shift rail. Or just use a dremel/grinder and keep test fitting until it fits.

Yo Dan,
Here is what I did on my 60. I'm not sure what your factory intake system looks like, or how to tap into it, but there are some good ideas in this thread I had in the 60 section awhile ago. Pictures at the top have broken links, but the final picture is at the end.
Project is...
