Where was your Warn winch made?

Right here is a important point that is pertinent to the value that Warn builds into its product line. Manufacturing costs likely have a lot to do with the decision to make the VR-10000 abroad. But I think Warn made sure it was built to the same standard you'd expect from the rest of their line...

Where was your Warn winch made?

Good to hear that. So often these discussions do go there. I've always found it a bit strange that some get uptight about the national origin of what we consume on a forum dedicated to a high quality, yet foreign made 4x4. The ultimate standard is performance. Either it works well or it...it's...

Where was your Warn winch made?

Don't blame the Mexicans or Chinese. The folks in Oregon made the decision and spec-ed the parts, whether they're made in the USA or elsewhere.

Help with MM hydraulic (military version)

Know nothing about these, except they have a pretty good rep considering the conditions they're used under. The problem I see with your 24 volt idea is that both batteries have to be good. Kind of makes using one or the other as a back-up a problem. Consider that the 24 volt solenoids on it...

If no winch, then what is needed for basic recovery?

Find a pair of 4-ton or 5-ton comealongs with as much cable on them as you can find. Make sure your straps and chains add up to at least 100' assuming you're in country where a tree can be commonly found. These will still come in handy even after you get a winch, as some pulls need a tie off or...

Getting ready mount my XRC12 in the ARB, couple questions...

These are the key words for being in the same grade/class as the Cat stuff: "Calcium Sulfonate Grease with 5% Moly" That's almost exactly as Cat describes theirs. Here are some other descriptors/features/qualities that the Cat Grease has: * Moisture resistance -- resists washout from fresh or...

Getting ready mount my XRC12 in the ARB, couple questions...

I'm pretty sure the bad rep these winches receive is mostly due to two things. They are often someone's first winch and it's not immediately obvious to them how fast a planetary winch heats up due to the compact design and, especially the 12k versions, how much power is drawn when operating...

Whats a complete PTO winch worth?

Big issue with the 80 is that I think all the North American spec trucks don't have the port with a bolt-on cover that's needed on the transfer case. All we get is a blank piece of metal. So, yeah, you'd have to modify to a split-case or something to do a PTO winch. Or find a 40 owner that needs it

Getting ready mount my XRC12 in the ARB, couple questions...

All I can say is it's worked when I've needed it, which has been about three times since my install. And our truck is garaged when not in use, so this further reduces the moisture exposure that's the hidden malaise of most winches. If you plan on using, cleaning, and servicing the winch...

HF Goes Big, 18,000 lb Badlands Winch

The Badland 12k seems to have satisfied a lot of folks. Assuming the same effort went into the 18k, I doubt there will be too many disappointments. More from the info in the flyer: 75' of 1/2" cable on a 4" x 10" drum 7.5 hp series wound motor Three-stage planetary gear drive Cable tensioner...

ARB Bull Bar Smittybilt X2O Winch Tacoma 04 Help

How much bigger are the holes in the bumper for the fairlead than the bolts? Typically you use a sleeve of some kind to fill the hole around the smaller bolt. Provided you can cut a small length of pipe to fill the gap after it slides over the bolt, it will take the slop out.

HF Goes Big, 18,000 lb Badlands Winch

Was having a conversation with another member when he mentioned HF has a new 18,000 lb Badland Winch out. $699. Before you buy one, check your fit. Doesn't look like it will fit the ARB on our 80. It's 27" wide, about 6" wider than the 12k Smittybilt in there now, which was shoehorned in. The...

Smittybilt Gen 2 Owners: Quick Question

That's good news. I'd be leery too if it doesn't positively lock. Most likely, just a burr on the casting that wasn't knocked off when it was being cleaned up. But a new handle should be a sure cure.

Smittybilt Gen 2 Owners: Quick Question

Can you turn the cable spool either direction, allowing the lever to turn to fully engaged? It looks like it's between teeth and needs to rotate a degree or two to allow full engagement. That's normal if that's the case.

    What Size Come-Along

Go with the genuine Hi-Lift brand jack if you have the time to make a choice. They're the only ones made in the USA (Bloomfield, IN, one of my old hometowns). I have an off-brand imported jack, which works but I just don't trust it like a Hi-Lift. On the other hand, these jacks can be pretty...

snatch block size for 8000lb winch

    m6000 is more $ than a m8000???

I'd almost bet they sell 100 M8000 to every M6000. Buying in quantity counts sometimes, is my guess. I actually had one of the first of these installed on my 84 Trooper. There were Sammies and other small 4x4s in that era these fit well. In almost any other case, you'd want something bigger and...

    Factory Winch

OUCH! $955 for the control? Guess so, since the winch is $8500+ You know you can get a nice Warn for much less.:p In fact, you can get an entire winch from Warn for less than $955:eek: IIRC, links here should help...
