I drove Mikes old 40 and you were lucky if you could even get it to go straight while locked for any distance. It now has ARB's front and rear, fun truck to drive. Mike did a great job building that thing.
I don't know about your gearing but I would go with an ARB locker in the front or just keep it open. Or, cable lockers (oem) if you can find them (good luck). E-lockers are electronically controlled and they don't make them for the 40.
Buy a Koyo. They are cheaper than OEM and pretty much the same thing. I wish I would have known about them when I replaced mine.
Changing the radiator on an 80 is a bitch, well at least for me.
Well until that headgasket is changed, you really don't have a reliable truck. I know the feeling because I have one. Constantly having the thought in the back of your mind is not the "Oh What A Feeling!" I really wanted or anyone who bought these defected trucks when new. Pretty sad on Toyota's...
The problem is that motor is a POS. Toyota should have recalled that motor when about 5 out of 10 blow headgaskets. The check engine light should also have a switch so you can turn it off.
What ever he did is still working great. The only problem with that truck since my dad bought it was the aftermarket dizzy exploded, can't blame Mr. Toyoda for that one.
Thanks again, I'll look for that thread too.
Thanks Larry. I had a friend that was interested in the setup. I see, drive, and maintain Mike's old rig for my dad but can't identify non OEM parts worth a damn.
Yeah, that is pretty cool. I guess I should mention that I have never tried the Tundra or Sequoia pads. I have read that here on mud in a few different threads.
100 series pads will work on 93' to 97' 80 series with no mods needed. They will also work on 91' to 93' but you need to grind out the housing a little. The part # 04465-60151 replaced by 04465-60220.
If you die I am not responsible.
