    Another Tires question?!

Noise is usually related to tread pattern not sidewall stiffness, so I'd assume your quieter Nokian Outpost just has a better designed tread pattern to reduce noise. Generally the larger the "lug" the noisier a tire will be. The lugs and spacing on the tire spinning around is what causes a...

    Another Tires question?!

One more point also is getting too light a tire might compromise wall and tread thickness and quality thus more prone to a puncture or tear. Personally I'd rather carry a few extra pounds than be stuck in the middle of know where with a shredded tire. Actually I do carry a LOT of extra weight...

    Another Tires question?!

Yup and I knew/understand about the whole unsprung rotational weight thing, and think I mentioned it above (or maybe another thread??). But generally, and I'll have to qualify this comment to myself, but my off roading is usually slow and cruising, taking in the scenery. I don't "pre-run" and...

    Another Tires question?!

Also, I don't recall anyone asking, but why does a couple of pounds ± matter? People are more often concerned about adding weight to the overall weight of the vehicle, not just the rims and tires. Which is why I kind of wish I went with aluminum bumpers. But at the time I built my rig, no one...

    Another Tires question?!

Lighter load range tires will air-down a lot easier than heavier tires. My last set of LT285/75R17 BFG M/T TA KM2 118Q tires. and even airing them down to about 12 psi, the side walls hardly flexed. With my current BFG A/T's I get a lot of side wall flex now when airing down. Not sure if you...

    Another Tires question?!

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about rotational weight if you're concerned with braking. I had a Ford F350 Crewcab built out as an overlander (side note: way too big) and had 37" tires. With all the weight and leverage of 37" tires, my braking was terrible! I was overloaded for the brakes...
