    As I recall, headers are welded on the manifold side, not the tube side. Surfacing is not recommended for that reason.

    Is it a header, or manifold. Manifold, probably a good idea if it looks even slightly warped. Yes, 10x1.25.

    I would look for Helicoil or Recoil brands. NAPA sells one of the two. There is a third flavor that some folks prefer, but I don't remember the name right now.

    Repair. Do it right. Especially since there is more than one. The Helicoil/Recoil will be much stronger than the aluminum.

    Oh, I used to own a 1982 short bed. Really wish I knew then, what I know now. Anyways, underneath the air cleaner snorkel is a valve. That valve pulls hot air off the exhaust manifold when cold. It should have a foil hose off the manifold (by now, usually MIA). Make sure the valve isn't stuck...
