Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

I removed my budbuilt fuel skid in hopes the OEM skid traps less heat. It must. The budbuilt didn't have a mark on it from wheeling so I'm not feeling less protected if after all the wheeling I did, it never got hit. Now the 80 gets the tough stuff and the 200 gets the long trips and camping...

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

So, I'm back to this line of thinking: Remove fuel skid and drill polka dot pattern of 1" holes spaced 1/2" apart, effectively making it more like the factory skid only more holes. Similar (but far less) drilled venting for the skid that covers the catalytic converters Heat shield between the...

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

Attached is the data from the Moab side of Rimrocker headed toward Montrose. It was hot out and lots of low range, slow moving going up in elevation. All three trucks were boiling. I think column X "Evap (Purge) VSV (%)" in the data probably needs to be correlated to some other data point(s)...

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

New radiator 2k miles ago and this trip through Utah and Colorado was the worst boiling I've had. I'm convinced the BudBuilt skids are trapping heat, particularly the fuel tank skid. I think the skids are also trapping a lot of the cat heat as well. I know some of the fuel lines (not sure if...

This current trip has been the worst so far. I’m committed to solving the problem so let me know what I can do to supplement your data and help find a solution.

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

If anyone wants to analyze some data, I have posted up all of my OBD Fusion Logs from Red Cone, where I did intermittently smell gas in the cabin. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/thegrrrrr-build-thread-everlong-my-2013-lc.1165785/post-14555000

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

I like the logic on the aux tank, but I think someone tried that and found that the transfer pump will immediately disengage because of the pressure levels in the main tank. If that could be overcome safely, it might be a mitigation strategy. As for my water tank on the roof, it might already...

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

That will definitely be worth a thorough write-up regardless of the outcome. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I would love to do something similar to contribute to the tech of this, I just don't have the prerequisite knowledge or skill to do so safely. I also don't have a good...

Gas/Fuel vapors/fumes visible from gas door

One thing that seems to be forgotten in the latter stages of this thread is what @Taco2Cruiser found about the engine design using returning fuel to cool parts of the top end. We can try to mitigate heat transfer all over the place, but if the return fuel is actually being used as part of the...
