Crazy, just had another Walbro fuel pump go out. Any other recommendations for external in-line fuel pump? I'm tempted just to go with Napa, it has a lifetime warranty.

An update on Bullwinkle, she's still going strong. Alaska60 did an awesome job on the conversion, and we spec'd it for Utah emissions. We moved to Denver last year and their emissions place told me they are second in strictness only to Kalifornia. In Utah it only had to meet 1988 emissions, the...

Bullwinkle is doing great! I need to lay off the skinny pedal, the 62 is so fun to drive. We just got back from Capitol Reef where the speed limit is 80 and the cruiser handled great. Heading down staying at the speed limit we got 18mpg, heading back up the mountains we averaged about 13 mpg...

I didn't mean to say you bought Chinese knock-offs, but Walbro said Chinese companies have been copying their pumps: markings, serial numbers, and all, and selling them as Walbro pumps without retailers knowing. They told me there were Chinese knock-offs being sold as the original real-deal...

Update on the stock fuel pump for the 5.3 Vortec. I went through a couple of Walbro fuel pumps and they would whine and fail. Tom had heard you could use the stock fj62 fuel pump so we tried it and it's been doing great. With the Walbro it would blow a fuse on me when I stepped on the gas and...

No way!! I'm happy for you and the New Mexico artist colonies, but sad for us. I might have to bring Rocky and Bullwinkle down for custody visits :grinpimp:. Power drain is doing much better, thanks to your expert doctor care. At least you'll have access to plenty of rust-free cruisers...

"Carnage" exploring the trails in Arches for Cruise Moab. A borrowed tire deflator slipped off between the drum and rim, but Neal saved the day with his surgeon's hands which no other tool could get . Edit: looks like we lost most of the build-up pics in the move to the new site?

Recently returned from Cruise Moab 2014, great trip! The cruiser did great in the desert. She's since been upgraded with 4-runner front discs and rebuilt rear drums. Also added wiring for towing. Plenty of power to tow, and going down to Moab from Provo we kept around 16mpg driving mainly in...

Success! At least I'm pretty sure, time will tell. Thanks for the post on the wire GLTH, it turns out the alternator wire was too wimpy and got so hot it was over-heating and melting the shrink wrap. Replaced it with some heavier 4 gauge and it's charging at 14.3, woo-hoo! The alt was...

Thanks for the offer Norsk, I was just up at Jake's yesterday. Which cruiser is yours? They do great work when you can get in their line-up. To make my former East coast compadres drool, here are a few shots from the barn yesterday, they've got 40's, 45's, 55's, 60's, and even a 70 body now...

So we about have the air conditioning figured out. It kept blowing a fuse and dumping all of the coolant. Everything was hooked up but there is a regulator that tells the AC pump when to turn on and off. In hooking the Toyota AC up to the Chevy AC pump we lost the regulator somewhere, which...

And here are some pics of the rear sliders attached to the bumper and the frame underneath. These are very stout, and I love how they follow the new lines of the chopped rear:

Took Bullwinkle to Cruise Moab, wow! I destroyed a disc in my back so wasn't able to hit any serious trails, but the crusier did great! We did a lot of exploring and some long trails in the desert like Onion Creek and Chicken Corners. The cruiser did great with the conversion, no over-heating...

Lots of updates, the cruiser's doing great. Alaska60 put the original 62 tank and fuel pump back in at the suggestion of John B. at Proffitts. You'd think it wouldn't have the horsepower to keep the fuel pressure up but so far so good, it's been working like a charm and no more blown Walbro...

Looks like there is a power drain after all, I put a new battery in and it was completely drained after a couple of days (this is the 3rd battery it's drained so it's got to be in the system and not a battery problem). Tangentially related, I rediscovered my first love! She's pretty rough, not...

Happy New Year Update: the walbro external fuel pump has been giving us grief. Apparently their quality has been spotty lately, we're on the second pump and it's been whining like a 2nd grader who lost his ball to the mean dog next door. John B. at Proffitts said they have had similar problems...

Good catch, my brain is fried this morning. It's the 105 amp alt putting out 13 volts. With the throttle pulled all the way out it would climb a little, to 13.2 volts.

I swapped out the alternator yesterday, it's pretty easy on these Vortecs, everything is up front and accessible. Just disconnect the wires, two bolts, put some pressure on the tension pulley and you're done. It tested with a bad voltage regulator. Took it back and exchanged it (good thing...

It will be great to have you back Tom! And not just for the tech know-how, honest... If they can't figure it out by tomorrow I'll just pull it out of the shop and wait for you to get back. It will be great to get the beast on the road.
