II don't know if this has already been covered... I switched from Slinky Intermediate to Heavy rear springs. Before, ride height was 23" front and 23" rear. New height is 23" front and 24" rear, unloaded, with an ARB rear bumper and a passenger side swingout:
From you numbers, it sounds like your rig was tall to start and the Dobinsons gave you the height they advertised. (Very close to what OME 2" mediums gave me) How much more height do you want, in terms of center to hub measurement? If it's less than an inch, I'd just get a quality spacer set...
Autocraft makes both "Slinky" and non "Slinky" springs. I ended up with Slinky over Dobinsons because I didn't want to go over the advertised lift height with my rig. In my research, it seems like the Dobinsons Taper springs are made for heavier rigs. This would reduce my flex and increase my...
@Box Rocket and @GW Nugget
Thanks for the measurements, guys. I would really like to target a 23.xx " ride height on my rig. It sounds like the difference must be the HD vs the Intermediate coils. My rig is on the lighter side because I don't run drawers, RTT or as many heavy tools as...
I am still waffling on suspension and am back to looking at 50mm kits. I got feedback from 2 guys running the 2.5" taper setup and both seemed to get around 23" front and 25" (!) rear hub to fender measurements. Can that be right?
I am also really interested in @woody 's front patrol coil...
The bump stop part of this equation made me curious. For a 3" lift, Slinky shocks compress to 16.85 and Icon shocks compress to 15.35 and 15.6...
@GW Nugget How tall is the bump stop extension that comes with the Slinky kit? Also, I remember seeing a Youtube video with your rig flexed where I...
One benefit I can see is that the narrower wire allows for a higher free height for a given ride height. That allows you to run lots of down travel at a low ride height. (I believe that's why you get 24" free heights for the Slinky and Dobinson taper 3" kits while only getting 21" for the Icon 3")
This. Thread. Is. Awesome. Thanks @GW Nugget! How you pried spring rates out of each company, I may never know. Can we sticky this and keep it up to date?
