    You get it at the entrance gate. There is potable water at the general store/laundry/shower area. We usually like to go there, get an ice cream and enjoy the views. The lodge is a really nice place to wander through as well. The permit also gives you access to some spectacular overlooks.

    We almost always get a permit. I have found they are the only reliable water source when camping near the rim. I've got to find a way to carry more than 20 gallons of water. The 4 wimmens in my group go through it like it's, water. :lol:

    It is all pretty much dry camping up there when camping at-large. There are some ponds and springs but they ask that you camp 1/4 mile from surface water.
