I've checked the wires from the batt to the starter, that's good.
I'm jumping from the relay to the battery, not direct to the battery.
Having a lack if time to diagnose, I installed a push-button on the dash for when it won't start by the key. That resolved that issue.
Now its randomly not...
Starter was replaced about 2yrs ago with a reman starter.
Reason for replacing it was the same issue I'm still experiencing and described here.
I need to try whacking it next time it acts up to see if it is the starter.
'88 4Runner ~245,000
'86 22RE 5spd. +15,000mi
When I turn the key on, everything powers up. Turning into the Start position and radio, lights, etc turn off and I hear the fuel pump run, but the engine doesn't crank.
I've replaced the ignition switch, starter relay, starter, and added an...
Nicely done install.
I have my FT8100 mounted using the rear view mirror bolts and a piece of 1/8" steel in my 4Runner.
Sadly, I don't have a the separation kit for mine (Yaesu stopped making parts for this thing years ago) so the whole unit is up there.
I need to get a pic.
Not nearly as...
and that doesn't include the tranny itself!
The Duratec, as I understand it, is designed by Isuzu. They know their diesels. Haven't heard of any problems with them save the common rail issues that plague all modern diesels.
Give me a 12v 6BT with a mechanical fuel pump and I'll be happy.
these folks Destroked - THE Cummins Conversion Company : Adapter Plates offer an adapter to the Allison 1000 series $795. Seems they offer stand-alone controllers for the Allison for another $1599 as well.
I'm a fan of stick shift, but ain't nothing wrong with an Allison
from looking at Chevy's build-your-own-truck thingy, there's no option for a manual transmission.
Allison builds a lot of transmissions for school buses and similar, I'm sure at least some of those are running Cummins engines.
I'll see what I can find on adapters.
Haven't heard of any issues with the 6spds (but I didn't/don't work on transmissions)
There's adapters to put virtually any transmission behind the 6BT, surely there's a good, sturdy, 6spd, or closer ratio 5spd out there.
Wonder how the 6spds from the Chevy and Ford diesels are holding up...
Looks like you're already set.
We've had no trouble with any of the drive train.
The one thing I would recommend would be finding a 6spd transmission for it. The Dodge 5spd is okay, but it really needs to be closer ratio. 40mph in 4th is too tall, but 3rd is too low.
I know the 6spds are...
Been digging old threads up much?
She made it to the road, was a DD for a couple years, then mom got tired of the bump-steer issue (still need to cut and turn the front axle), the manual transmission, the climb into it, and the noise. She's driving a Town Car now, so all those problems...
all four appeared to be the same size unlike the stock calipers of the 60. I did not measure them all, but if there was a size difference, it was very small.
'94 4Runner caliper pistons are 1.67" diameter.
got them installed on the FJ and braking is improved. Not dramatically, but its better then it was.
Save some trimming of the dust shields and a tiny bit of grinding on the caliper to clear the wheel, it was a bolt in operation.
Wasn't aware that the 60's had those. I'm sure the rears are working, so I think thats probably not the issue.
Rear brakes are properly adjusted and working.
We have a MC and calipers on order. Hopefully that'll help
Thanks for the tips!
