Hi,
We own a 1999 LX 470 with 282,000 miles.
When turning, the steering can be kind of tough. Is there a way to grease it up? Perhaps there even zircs down there to add grease?
Thanks,
Phil
My understanding is that the whole thing needed to be replaced. Too much brake fluid leaked on it for too long.
Remember, I had two mechanics tell me the same thing.
I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT! I assumed it was a shot part.
Unfortunately it has been weeks since the repair. I am sure my mechanic no longer has the part.
Next time I will remember to do something like that. Sorry.
My apologies planomateo and anyone else who may have been interested.
So I ordered the Master Cylinder with all the extras (booster, accumulator) out of Atlanta Lexus for the small sum of $2250. Another $300 to put it in.
We feel like the brakes are still a little hard to push, as they were...
Thank you Sandroad. Yes, I met with my mechanic and he also said that he truly believes that this is the entire part.
It never hurts to double check with you guys though. Many of you know more about Land Cruisers than even the best mechanics who work on all types of cars.
The Atlanta...
Well, the mechanic that said it was too far gone to rebuild. He recommends replacing the entire thing. So I am going to have to buy the entire Master Cylinder and all associated parts.
So I have one more question. Does this part have all this: accumulator, ABS pump, module, and complete master...
Great catch Sandroad.
And the first mechanic said as much. But he wasn't very responsive when I asked about a possible rebuild.
So I took it to a second mechanic, and he has been much better about being willing to try the rebuild. And then if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
Like I said...
Thank you planomateo.
I called our Toyota dealership the other day and when I mentioned I was needing a part for a Lexus, he said he needed to bring up microfiche! So I am pretty sure I am going to have to order it from out of town.
And honestly, I didn't think a dealer or automaker made...
GREAT NEWS!
I took many of your advice and found a mechanic who is willing to give it a shot. I told him not to say no until he had read Master Cylinder Rebuild - DIY (Thank you Skidoo!).
Now I just need that kit. Anyone have a link where it can be bought?
Thanks again everyone! And may you...
Yeah...it is cool that you know what you guys are doing. I can't do that though.
QUESTION: There is a guy that is highly recommended on ih8mud to buy parts from, I believe out of Georgia? Can someone give me his contact info?
This is the cheapest I can find the part brand new, and they will...
It is pretty much confirmed as a leak. I had another mechanic (backyard mechanic...but good) look at it before I am having my other mechanic verify the same thing.
And aside from that, he is not making that much in labor. Just a freakin expensive part.
Thank you though.
Link? And does it include the lower pump unit on the bottom of the master cylinder and the accumulator on the side?
Again, this is what my mechanic is asking for. And while I admit to knowing next to nothing about this, I am just trying to provide it for him.
Thanks jLB. I just called my mechanic and he looked at that link.
Unfortunately, he said that is only one part.
He also needs, "Lower pump unit on the bottom of the master cylinder and the accumulator on the side."
If anyone can send this info I would honestly kick you back some money if I...
Thanks planomateo. I have actually seen a link to rebuild this part. If I had balls, I would try it myself. But I don't even know how to bleed the brakes! lol.
Anyone else? Is this the same part I referenced above the same as referenced by mechanic?
Mechanic says this:
$2,999.90 ABS MODULATER KIT
INCLUDES
FULL ASSEMBALLY
MASTER CYLINDER
RESEVOIR
BOOSTER WITH ACCUMULATOR
RELATED HARDWARE
$14.00 GASKET
Is the link below the entire thing?
