Machine shop said the same, guess we'll find out what happened when I pull the trans.
Machine shop was provided with a full OEM Toyota engine overhaul gasket set. Hope that's what I find in there...
Follow up to the saga of the 1FZ I pulled, had rebuilt by a well known local machine shop, and reinstalled for my old boss... He got the truck back and has been very pleased for the last month or so. Today he called me saying the truck was leaking a ton of oil from the back of the motor...
Definitely factored into my decision to pull the whole thing. It'll be easier to figure out what's holding it up so I can spin the assembly to get to the converter bolts.
Drained the oil last night, definitely has not had oil changes as frequently as it should've.......
Yeah, I'm a OEM kind of guy, where available and economically feasible, but this was for a friend who just wanted the truck running again. I failed to mentioned that this job came to me after someone else started the job a couple years prior. I got the truck with most of the accessory and...
Alright, it's settled. Pull the whole package. I have to tear the motor down to the long block before it goes to the machine shop, I'll pull the timing cover and see what's going on in there.
I did a 22R for another friend, they did a timing chain job with a cheap eBay timing set. Said it...
Hey all, have a friend's 97 FZJ80 that he wants fixed. Originally, truck died on the freeway, restarted and ran poorly, then shortly died again and would not restart. When I first looked at it, I cranked it and it sounded like a lack of compression on all cylinders, so I suspected valve timing...
Hey there, just bought a 86 4Runner. Body is pretty decent for being a Hawaii truck. My goal is to have a clean daily driver that can do some wheeling too but by no means a trail monster (we don't have much here on Oahu anyway). I'm trying to keep it pretty close to stock, but with subtle...
No, sorry. :( We were about to leave, and the cruiser is on another island. Perhaps next time I'll snap some picture.
Thanks, next time I check out the cruiser I'll give it a closer look and get back to you. :)
So.... finished dropping the new RadiatorBarn radiator in... and drove it around with flush in... ok, drain, fill with coolant... time to play! So I get someone to stand in front and pull on the winch line while I sit in the cab and see which way the cable goes in what position. Clutch out...
Sorry for the ancient bumptasticness, but Im curious too, if anyone has found a source for these? Would it be possible for a machine shop or someone to make one?
Hmm, maybe I'll leave the thermostat as is for now, since the rig isn't even street legal. I'm only prepping it for shipping to my house. (Rig located on another island) Once I get it here, I'll change it, since I have more tools at my disposal, should anything happen.
Sounds like a plan to...
Sweet, sounds pretty straight forward.
I read about an issue with the drain cock location or something. Can anyone shed some light on that?
Also, after installing radiator, is there a procedure to flush it or anything before I seal it all back up?
I may replace the thermostat at the same...
Probably going to replace the radiator in the 40 this weekend, if it gets here in time. Its a 4-core RadiatorBarn unit. Anything special I should note when I replace it? I only have an ancient chassis manual thats falling apart at the seams, so if you have some scans of the radiator pages...
Hmmm, never mind. My grandfather had a set of tires that he took off his ranger soon after he bought it. He almost forgot he had them. Thank god for grandfathers with tons of old junk. :D
Okay, so problem: FJ40 is on another island, but it wants to be here.
Problem 2: 40 has not been on the road in 8 years, and is not quite street legal (exhaust, lights, horn, clutch is funky)
Problem 3: 40 needs to be street legalized, or flatbedded to the docks
Problem 4: 40s tires are flat...
