Installing Bestop Tiger Top Snaps to Tub

Can't help with pictures as my hardtop is on right now which hides the snaps unfortunately. I can confirm that the male snap parts on mine measure 3/8" though. I followed the same instructions you have and drilled the holes as advised around the top lip of the tub. Luckily with careful...

What’s the minimum support structure for a bikini top?

Don't be like this guy, roll bars just make sense on a skinny 4x4.

Ideas to prevent the bikini top bubble?

The SOR family top has 3 straps sewn in to attach to the main roll bar hoop and prevents bubbling up. I'm happy with mine and it stays put even at freeway speeds. I think it should be fairly easy to add a couple cinch straps or even some velcro ones to your top using heavy duty thread to solve...

    Adding winch?

I am of the unpopular opinion that there is only 1 type of winch that increases value, the OEM PTO winch in proper working order. Everything else is aftermarket. The 8274 is a great one, I sure would not mind having one, but there are many stronger units available these days. You have a...

    Bump stops

Try these. 2"x2"x1" thick rubber squares meant to dampen vibration for washing machines. Got these in a 4 pack at Lowes for around $20 a while back. Use some tough double stick tape to adhere onto the top of the U bolt flip plate for a cheap, easy bump stop.

    Fiberglass hardtop paint recommendations please.

Straight white over grey primer. I had a couple blotchy spots I didn't like at first. I put turtle wax over it a few months later after it fully cured and it hid them well.

    Fiberglass hardtop paint recommendations please.

I did Rustoleum gloss white on mine and also the bezel. Used 6 cans for 4 thick coats on each. I like the contrast of the bright white and the green body paint plus gloss white looks more like the original gel coating to me.

76 FJ40 Starts -- Stops Running When Ignition Is Released

X2 on the ignition switch. Brass contacts inside wear down and can cause continuity issues. Very easy to replace on a 76.

    Pin Striping - FJ40

This decal actually fits on an 40 series hood. There used to be a guy in Eastern Washington driving a Firebird FJ40! Edit - this is the only picture I could find. Not very clear but you get the idea. Summer '98 near the Naches wagon trail in Washington state.

    Pertronix vs Distributor fuel efficiency

I've used a Pertronix for over 20 years but never have seen an increase in fuel efficiency. Just a good, consistent spark plus the benefit of not having to change or gap points. 13 mpg isn't bad. Aerodynamics of the 40 itself are the biggest obstacle for mpg with F series engines, I have adopted...

Stock Air Intake Snorkel and Pipe for 1977 FJ40 ?

My air filter housing was chopped as well when I first bought my cruiser. I was able to source another at a 4x4 swap meet for $15 then added one of City Racers hoses and a custom intake horn. Still searching for an OEM intake horn but as Rex stated, people think they are made of gold and priced...

    FJ40 Accessories Sheet (Hickey Enterprises)

Interesting, this diagram is also on the last page of this amazing off roading handbook from 1975. It has a lot of vintage 40 series action shots in black and white along with several other vehicle types from that era. Information is rather dated but well worth the $3 I paid for it at Half Price...

    Gas Smell

I also had fuel smell issues the last couple of years. Before ripping out your fuel tank try replacing these 4 hoses that go to the evap unit from the tank with new fuel line. (Apologies for stealing this picture) My lines were original and didn't have any obvious cracks but I replaced them...

    Bose bluetooth speaker location/bracket

I just use a piece of velcro and stick my speaker to the dash pad. Sounds great and it's easy to remove and take with you when parked.

Fan and fan clutch removal help. Will not come off.

At this point I'd drain the coolant and pull the radiator. It's a PITA but really only takes a half hour to remove. These 40 series always seem to take a few extra steps than you plan anyway. There should be plenty of room to leverage it out after removal. If not, you now have acess to remove...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Finished up my head gasket install, adjusted valves, filled up the oil and coolant then started it up. Running great to my surprise, none of my hoses are leaking and it sounds like the valves are within spec, so I let it idle for a few minutes and warm up. Notice a bit of white smoke from the...

Headlight rock guards yes or no ?

Mine have been on since '95 and I haven't broken a headlight yet. They are useful on road as well and not just for the trail. Rocks and debris get kicked up by semi trucks and other vehicles too. Headlights are probably the most vulnerable part on an FJ40 grill, protect it. 👍

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Finally found some time to wrench on the 40 over the weekend, been so busy with family and holiday stuff the 40 has just sat for weeks with no attention. Scraped and cleaned up everything then reinstalled the head onto the 2F using an OEM gasket. Paid special attention during the torque sequence...

    76 FJ40 hood rib

Excellent advice! This is exactly what I did. Used several small wedges to open the gap then squirted as much PL adhesive in as possible. Then removed the wedges and shut the hood on a couple 2x4s. After day or two it completely cured, rib was locked in place again and my hood was much more...

    76 FJ40 hood rib

I used this Loctite product on my 76 hood a year ago and it's holding up well. Center rib on mine was pretty loose and would vibrate sometimes. This stuff fixed that issue and was only around $6 at Lowes.
